Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Meet Ollie, a standard Schnauzer that arrived on 9/12 at the Mesquite Animal Shelter. He weighs 19 pounds and is about 3 years old. Ollie will come to his kennel door but when one tries to go in he will go to the back of the kennel. Ollie is uneasy in the shelter environment and hasn't quite acclimated yet. However after three volunteers spent time with him today he began to warm up and relax. He walks nicely on a leash, but is somewhat hesitant. He seemed to enjoy stretching his legs and exploring the yard. He did his business in the yard. It seems obvious that Ollie has not had the best of care. He has a skin issue that appears to be flea dermatitis. He was given a Nexgard to help with that. One of our kind volunteers bathed him today. This is the reason for the appearance of his having a bad hair day in his photos! A good groom, a healthy diet, some medicated shampoo baths and an inside life with a loving person or family would be just what the doctor ordered! Ollie does not seek out attention, but was willing to be petted. My guess is that he has not been socialized much. He needs continued interaction to feel comfortable and to build trust. It would not take long to grow fond of this sweet, calm and gentle boy. It seems as though he might be best suited for a quiet, laid-back household. Will you please consider whether you can help Ollie out of the shelter?
