My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

** $100 in pledges for any rescue that pulls **

Sasha Fierce ACCT-A-173186 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral concerns. Sasha Fierce must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20TH at 10AM. Should Sasha Fierce's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Meet Sasha Fierce! This sweet, affectionate girl was surrendered on 9/12 when her owner had to move and couldn't take her along. Her owner noted that she was very protective of her family, got worked up during arguments, nipped someone while protecting them, and had issues with resource guarding. She's a bit nervous here and has been missing her family, but despite that, she has been well-behaved at the shelter. Sasha is looking for an adult-only home, as she was uncomfortable around the small child in her previous home. Due to the behavior concerns in her previous home, Sasha Fierce is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter. If you're ready to give her the love and attention she craves, Sasha would love to meet you!

BEHAVIOR:
Per staff 9/16: Sasha greeted me at her kennel with a wagging tail, she tried to push her way out of the kennel at first but stopped after she realized that she would not be able to push her way out and was easy to leash. She did not pull on the leash as we walked outside. While out in the yard she spent some time sniffing around and then jumped up next to me on the bench looking for some love. She had a dog meet with Chase The Man and was not interested in him at first. After some time Sasha acknowledged Chace The Man and they both got excited with lots of sniffs and tail wags. Sasha also met Desert Rose and greeted her with a high, wagging tail. After some sniffing, Sasha walked away and Desert Rose Came back with some more sniffing and was up in Sasha's space. Sasha did not appreciate this and raised her hackles, lip licked and gave a low growl. I pulled her away and she went back to being a loose body, wiggly girl. She walked through the kennels easily and hopped right in her kennel.

Per volunteer on 9/15: Sasha walks pretty good on the leash, only pulls very mildly. She likes hotdogs. She knows sit. She leaned in for pets and jumped up to my lap for comfort and gave me a few kisses. She allowed all over handling and especially liked booty scratches. She was very sweet during my time with her. She was whining a bit and doing some exit searching, I think she misses her family.

9/13 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Owner surrender - not getting along with resident kid
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Sasha Fierce was on the opposite side of kennel when I approached. She came trotting up to the door with neutral eyes and body, and sniffed at the crack curiously. When I opened the door she tried to push out, but when she realized she couldn't she stopped. She was easy to leash and came out once secured.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally to moderately
HANDLING:
When we got to the yard Sasha Fierce sniffed around for a few minutes, getting her bearings. She didn't come when I called her, and wasn't interested in my treats. She began stress panting and lightly whining as she paced the yard. I tried to distract her with treats, but she wasn't interested in what I had. She allowed all over handling right away, and didn't show any handling sensitivities described by the owner. She allowed me to touch and handle her ears, tail, and paws, and allowed full body pets. A couple dogs walked by the yard and Sasha greeted them very froward, with hackles raised, ears erect, tail high, and body tense. She whined at them but did not escalate. Another dog came by and she was more relaxed, hackles not raised and body more neutral, but tail still high.
PLAY
No interest, too stressed
TOYS:
No interest, too stressed
COLOR LEVEL & ANY RECOMMENDATIONS:
Blue - get out again and test resource guarding with high value items

Summary of owner notes, which were translated from Spanish:
Sasha Fierce was described as loving and protective of her owners who had her for one year. They noted that when she feels that there is a dangerous situation, she will react. For example, if someone suddenly approached her owner, she would defend them. There was one instance where the owner thought someone was going to hurt them, Sasha Fierce made an abrupt movement towards the person in an attempt to bite and pinched their skin. She knows 'sit', 'go inside', 'come on', and 'go to bed'. She has medium energy and walks well on the leash. She likes all kinds of toys and treats. Introductions to strangers should be taken slowly. She did well with their child, but the child bothered the dog, which was part of the reason they surrendered her. Regarding her interactions with other animals, she is fine if the other dog doesn't pull and can be okay with cats after slow introductions. They summarized her as very affectionate and protective of her family, that she likes to go to the park and walking, and is playful and follows simple instructions.

When asked for more information about the bite attempt, staff noted that the owner said that "she hadn't actually tried to bite anyone, but she is very protective and gets worked up during big arguments. She also has issues with resource guarding and does not like when children touch her ears. He says that she is a very good dog, just very protective. Was around another dog in lobby and did not have a negative response.

MEDICAL:
On 9/17, Sasha Fierce was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on doxycycline. Her PCR test is pending. She was also noted to have red, waxy ears that smelled of yeast, with the right ear being worse than the left. EKT medication was applied to both ears.

9/12 Intake Exam:
Eyes - clean bit red
Ears - clean
Nose - wet & moist
Mouth/Teeth/Gums - yellow bit staining
Coat & Skin - clean
Urogenital - female intact
Gait/Mobility - no lameness
Attitude: BAR friendly and sweet
