MEGARA NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Megara Best Guess for Breed: Terrier, lab mix
Best Guess for Age: 2 years as of September 2024 Gender: Female
Approximate Weight: 45 lbs
Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with kids or cats but she can be tested.
Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to come up after completing heartworm treatment.
Special Adoption Considerations: Megara is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.
We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!
Megara is Looking For: A forever home where she gets to burn off all her awesome young dog energy! In the shelter, she loves her daily doggie playgroup - she'd love to have the opportunity to make pup pals once she is in her forever home too. She'd love a family who takes her on romps and all the adventures they can dream up. The mountains, the beach, Starbucks for pup cups - yes, please!
But what she wants most of all is to know she's safe and loved and under her own roof. In exchange she has so much to offer. Adoring gazes, happy tail wags, and loyal companionship for all her days. What do you say? Is this pretty tiger-striped girl the one you have been seeking?
What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once she has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with her foster.
Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog
