My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"It is amazing how much love and laughter dogs bring into our lives." This reminds us of our wonderful Gus!

Why we love him: Gus is such a sweet and joyful presence and the best company!

Gus is a happy-go-lucky, fun dog who is an absolute delight and we love spending time with him! Gus is two years old and weighs 62 pounds.

Gus is a very enthusiastic companion on daily walks and enjoys being close by your side. He would be a fine hiking or running buddy, too.

Gus has the best time in the fenced yard, where he bounds about in total joy and is so agile. He loves to leap high in the air to catch the toys you toss his way. Gus would probably excel in an agility class. One of our volunteers describes his outings as having "epic play yard zoomies!"

Once he is done, he will sprawl on the grass to hang out with you for pets and cuddles and and to enjoy the day together.

Gus has enjoyed meeting his fellow shelter companions in play groups. If you have another dog, we do require a meet and greet to ensure compatibility.

Gus has such a loving heart and is always ready for quality cuddle time.

He is a bright dog who should master any commands you wish to teach him.

Gus went on a field trip with one of our dedicated volunteers who reports:
"We took Gus to a park where a photographer was doing pet portraits. Gus was very excited to explore a new atmosphere but quickly became a good boy following commands to sit. He was approaching strangers looking for affection. We had a kitten with us also and he was curious about the kitten posing for pictures next to him but after a couple of sniffs and a kitten swat he enjoyed the kitten’s company!"

Gus will be such a fun and devoted companion for the family lucky enough to take him home!

We are so grateful to Carla Miles for her beautiful photos of our dogs!

More about this shelter

Cheatham County Animal Control is committed to finding good homes for the animals that come into the shelter system. We work with rescues and adopters. We are a no kill shelter but we rely on people coming in to adopt!

All of our cats/dogs receive vaccinations that are appropriate for the age and health when they are at animal control. We also spay and neuter all of our animals. The adopter is responsible for all vaccinations and medical care after adoption.
