My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our little Monkey man isn't quite ready for adoption yet as we are still in the process of getting to know his needs and finding the best fit, but we are beginning to accept applications to find the best fit.

This little survivor was running loose near the busy Newark Airport for several weeks before finally being trapped thanks to our friends at Buddha Dog Rescue and Recovery! He's probably only about a year old and the cutest active little JRT pup with a comically large overbite that looks more like a beak than a muzzle. He's very skittish at first and a major escape artist, with his first instinct being to RUN! So will need a very paranoid patient adopter who will be diligent in always making sure he doesn't have a chance to flee- dart out a door, squeeze or dig under a fence... you always have to be 2 steps ahead of these little flight risk dogs to keep them safe from themselves. He seems to like female dogs and follows and wags his tail with them but we are still getting to know his personality and needs. When he does finally find the right home, he will go with double slip lead plus martingale collar, an air tag, and lots of stern warnings and horror stories to fill your head and make sure you take extra steps to keep him safe and not let your guard down as he acclimates.

The good news is he's very smart (too smart probably!) and food motivated, is working on getting used to walking on leash and socializing with staff, and has the potential to be a fun little companion for an active experienced terrier lover.

More about this shelter

Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. is founded on the belief that all animals have a natural right to humane treatment including proper care and safe shelter. Due to overpopulation, there are insufficient homes for most cats and dogs. Some are lucky enough to find temporary shelter and a few even find permanent homes. However it is a devastating fact that the majority are either euthanized or forced to chance life without shelter.

To support our belief and to relieve the unnecessary suffering of animals, we shall:
1.Extend every effort to find, evaluate, and secure good adoptive homes for animals in our care.
2.Provide animals with medical services and behavior therapy to the extent of our ability.
3.Adhere to a “no-kill” policy: animals shall not be euthanized for the purpose of providing space for new animals.
4.Adhere to a 100% spay and neuter policy.
5.Maintain continuing humane education programs and in particular to schools.
