My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET AND GREETS BY APPOINTMENT ONLYMeet Leal, a brilliant and devoted German Shepherd with a sharp mind and a heart full of love. This impressive girl already knows many commands and is eager to tackle new challenges. Leal is a driven and loyal companion, but she does have some fears and anxieties that will require a dedicated adopter with previous working dog experience to help her navigate. Ideal adopters will be active individuals or couples with no children under 12, as Leal thrives in a structured environment where she can channel her energy and intelligence.Leal`s perfect home includes a securely fenced yard and a lifestyle rich in activity, including long walks, runs, or hikes with training sessions sprinkled in. With patience, commitment, and the right guidance, Leal will flourish into a fearless and loving partner. She’s not just looking for a home; she’s seeking a committed and experienced adopter ready for a rewarding journey. If you’re up for the challenge and eager to welcome a remarkable dog into your life, Leal is ready and waiting for you! She was brought into the shelter on July 11th, 2024 as a stray. She has been spayed, microchipped and she is up to date on all her vaccinations. We strongly recommend calling the shelter between 11am and 4pm to discuss more details about my background with our behavior team!

More about this shelter

What is it and why do we do it?

We "go the extra mile" to help assure that, when you adopt a pet from HSVB&IRC, you'll be making an informed choice. By matching an animal's personality to yours and your lifestyle, we're more likely to assure that you make the right adoption decision the first time.

We are using a program developed by the ASPCA. It is called "Meet Your Match." Currently, we evaluate dogs and cats before we make them available for adoption.

Also, we ask each prospective adopter to complete an Adopters' Survey which helps identify factors in their lifestyle which might guide their choice of animals. Then, we compare the findings to make a match.

Proudly, we have a very high adoption retention rate — a fact we credit to taking this extra step in the adoption process.
We want you to make a "SAFER" choice, too.
In addition to Meet Your Match, HSVB&IRC has implemented the ASPCA’s Meet Your Match SAFER™ (Safety Assessment For Evaluating & Rehoming) program - a tool for assessing the probability of future canine aggression. Ask us for more details.
