My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is Beefy. He's about 2 years old and weighs close to 70lbs.

Just look at this gorgeous dog. He's a little bit of a beauty and a little bit of a beast... in the best way possible.

Beefy is a bull-headed and big-hearted dog. He needs strict structure. He wants to please you, for sure, but you HAVE to be stern with him. Being stern with him is the only way to get him to listen. He takes no offense to it, I promise. I had to redirect him a few times on our walk, and while some softer dogs would cower at the command in my voice, Beefy wagged his tail like "Okay, whatever you need!" and then did what I needed him to.

Beefy is a great dog. He just needs someone who will teach him that the human is the boss, not the other way around. If you are soft-hearted and baby your dogs, this is *not* the dog for you! He will fail in a home like that.

He has a pretty strong prey drive, so a home with NO cats or small animals is required.

We are not sure whether Beefy Boy gets along with other dogs or not, so bring yours along with you when you decide to meet him!

More about this shelter

At Jonesboro Animal Services we enforce, educate, protect, and assist both the people of Jonesboro and the animal residents too. By enforcing animal-related laws and educating the public about animal care and welfare issues, we protect both the health and safety of humans and animals alike.

The Animal Services Department investigates all reports of animal cruelty, animal attacks, and bite reports. At our animal shelter we care for stray, abused, and surrendered animals. Most of our animals get adopted to new homes. By working both here at home and with animal rescue operations across the country, we find new homes for most of the animals we take in. Come visit us soon. Your new "fur-ever" friend is waiting for you at our shelter!

We love to talk about what we do:

We have many kinds of instructional and educational programs for all ages. We will be happy to come to your school, civic club, church group, or any other group and bring some of our friends!

Studies have shown that just spending some time with an animal friend can lower blood pressure, reduce anxiety, and relieve depression. Many of us have certified our own pets to go to nursing homes, retirement homes, and hospitals to help residents and patients have a better day.

We partner with Northeast Arkansans for Animals (NAFA) to offer low-cost vaccination clinics, and low-cost cat neuter clinics. We also offer free training and socialization classes for you and your pet. ’Like’ us on Facebook and keep up-to-date on all our activities!
