My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Scout ACCT-A-173820 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Scout must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by THURSDAY, OCTOBER 3RD at 10AM. Should Scout's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Scout is scouting the city for his forever family- could it be you? He's seeking a kind and active owner, who can give him play time and treats for life! Scout was found as a stray on 9/11, so we don't know much about his past as we could not get in contact with the person on his microchip. The finder said he was nervous but friendly with strangers, nervous of other animals, and jumpy with children. Overall, they described him as friendly, cuddly, scared, and playful. He's an energetic dog who has been playful throughout his time at the shelter. He has had both good and bad dog meets at the shelter and is open to meeting other dogs who can match his energy. Due to his length of stay, Scout is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter.

BEHAVIOR:
Per volunteer 9/25: Jumps on you in a playful, puppy manner, easy to redirect.

Per volunteer 9/15: Very wiggly for leashing! He tried to dodge the leash a few times before allowing it. He liked to prance around while walking! He pulled a bit and was barking at other dogs as we walked by but wasn't overly reactive. In the play yard he lovesss running around! He jumped up on me when he was zooming and excited. Took treats very gently! Not overly treat motivated but enjoyed them. He did great at the acct photoshoot without reacting to the additional stimuli. Hesitated before going back into kennel but went in with some pressure. Playful and super cute boy!

Per volunteer 9/13: Likes to play with his teeth when excited.

9/12 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Stray
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Scout was sitting by the door, soft eyes and a wagging tail. He was excited so he was moving around but once he was caught he was easy to leash and came right out.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls moderately
HANDLING:
Scout came outside with a lot of energy and a wagging tail. He knows how to sit and takes treats nicely. He is a very silly and goofy boy that loves to run around and chase the handler. He is a very very goofy boy and tried stealing treats from the bag. He allowed all handling and is very treat motivated. His big head and wiggly body makes him the sweetest and most perfect running body and cuddler. He does get a little mouthy with play once he gets overly excited and does jump up alot. Be careful of your arms and hands when he becomes extremely playful. He can be redirected with toys and treats
PLAY
Will play with anyone and anything
TOYS:
Interest and will trade for treats
COLOR LEVEL & ANY RECOMMENDATIONS:
Blue

MEDICAL:
On 9/16, Scout was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and prescribed 2 weeks of antibiotics. He tested positive for pneumovirus but since tested negative on 9/23.

During his intake exam on 9/11, Scout was noted to have clear eye and nasal discharge, dirty ears, and dry skin, but was friendly during his exam.

Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal.

ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details.

If you are a rescue interested in pulling this animal, please email our lifesaving team, or visit here if you are not currently a rescue partner: https://acctphilly.org/acct-philly-love-local-partnership-program/

Confirmed placement is considered a confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent.

All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia, as the only open-intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia. ACCT Philly's Pennsylvania kennel license number is 08313.

ACCT Philly is an independent, 501c3 nonprofit organization, contracted by the City of Philadelphia to provide animal control services. Our animal control officers provide service over 142.6 square miles to the city’s more than 1.5 million residents and ACCT Philly’s facility in North Philadelphia handles more than 17,000 of the city’s animals, from dogs and cats, to small animals, reptiles, birds and wildlife, annually.

In addition to animal control and sheltering, ACCT Philly is open 365 days a year for pet adoptions. ACCT Philly also supports a foster care program where community members provide temporary homes for sheltered animals and one of the (if not THE) most extensive rescue partnership program in the country where approved rescue partners accept ACCT Philly animals into their adoption programs. Under contract ACCT Philly’s Animal Control Officers provide animal control services and code enforcement. Other exciting ACCT Philly programs include a food pantry for low-income pet owners, a vibrant volunteer program, trap-neuter-return for community cats, a unique Pen Pal program to assist dogs at risk … and so much more!
