My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Lambchop! this 3-year-old, 11 pound bundle of cuteness is looking for his forever home.

Lambchop is a loving cuddle bug who just wants to be held all day long. You'll find him either on the couch or in someones arms. This boy will make you smile when he sometimes stands on his front paws to pee or lay with his legs sticking out like a frog.

Lambchop is currently working through some resource guarding behavior issues. His ideal forever family will be one that is dedicated towards continuing to teach him how to be the incredibly loving dog he is, but also that it is okay to share! Lambchop's behavioral issues tend to be shown via guarding his favorite person in the home and/or vocally alerting to noises coming from outside the home. He does, however, happily great visitors in the home and meeting people out in public. An ideal home for Lambchop would be one that is a single individual household or a family that has experience working with anxiety/resource guarding behaviors. Additional details explaining Lambchop's specific needs will be provided to all potential adopters.

Lambchop has no issues with house-training as long as he's on a good routine, but a belly band or close eye is always helpful for any new transition as he gets used to his new digs.

Lambchop is crate-trained and currently sleeps in his crate at night and when alone. He has been known to not do well free-roaming the house when home alone. It does not take much effort to coax him into his crate, just a little treat before you are on your way!

Lambchop is great with other dogs and is pretty neutral toward dogs on leash and off. When it comes to cats, he's also great and after a sniff will leave them be. As for kids, he can be a bit finicky so older kids, such as teens, would probably be best there to avoid his nippy fear response.

Lambchop would prefer a home without shared walls due to his sometimes vocal tendencies but would do well with or without a fence. Really what this sweet pup would love most of all is someone or people home regularly to cuddle and hangout with and simply enjoy life.

Additional adoption info

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.

Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer

How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.

Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.

We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
