DELILAH NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Delilah Best Guess for Breed: Heeler and Lab mix
Best Guess for Age: 4.5 years as of September 2024 Gender: Female
Approximate Weight: 36 lbs
Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with kids or cats but she can be tested.
Currently Living At: Shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area after completing heartworm treatment.
Special Adoption Considerations: Delilah is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.
We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!
Delilah is Looking For: Her forever home! She landed in the shelter through no fault of her own, and can't wait to once again have her own humans. Says she hasn't seen enough of the world yet.
She's eager for long sniffy walks, romps in parks, and all the adventures her new family can dream up. Trips to the beach, the mountains, Starbucks for pup cups - yes, please! That likely heeler in her mix, that's got a lot of energy for burning off! Making lots of pup and people pals along the way is high on her wish list, as are quality kibble and and a cushy dog bed. But you know what she wants most of all? To know where she belongs, to know who her people are, and to be safe and loved. In exchange, she offers the stockpile of adoring gazes and little tail wags she has amassed - and loyal companionship for all her days.
What do you say? Is this sweet speckled pup the one you see trotting by your side?
What My Foster Says About Me: Shelter staff say that Delilah is a lovely, happy, social butterfly. She's working on not grabbing the leash out of excitement on walks but is doing well with corrections! She can entertain herself for quite a while with a ball in the play yard. She prefers a gentle play style with other dogs.
Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog
