My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Asiago!

Age: Estimated 4 years

Breed: Dutch Shepherd

Arrived: 8/30/24

Asiago is a sweet but shy Dutch Shepherd who’s looking for a patient and understanding home. He came to us with a history that suggests he’s had a tough start, including being found with a collar and a piece of a tether that he chewed through.

Personality:

Fearful with People: Asiago is cautious around new people and prefers minimal handling. He’s working on building trust and needs a gentle, patient approach.

Leash Skills: He’s improving with leash training but has very little experience and can still panic. Consistent, calm guidance will help him feel more secure.

Dog Selective: Asiago is fearful around other dogs and may panic and run away when overwhelmed. This reaction can sometimes trigger other dogs to chase him, so careful management and gradual introductions are essential.

Looking For:

Asiago will thrive in a home where his fearful behavior is met with understanding and patience. His ideal family will provide a calm environment, gentle handling, and consistent training to help him build confidence and feel safe. With the right support, Asiago has the potential to become a loyal and loving companion.

More about this shelter

Marion County Animal Services is the largest animal shelter in our county. Operating as a no-kill shelter, our kennels are almost always full. We provide adoption, fostering opportunities, work with rescues, accept volunteers and provide the training for veterinary assisting students. In addition, we run the Neuter Commuter and provide all animal control services in Marion County.
Due to the sheer volume of animals in our care, we need lots of help from our community in our effort to adopt out more and save more!
We don't only accept the ideal animals into our shelter. We can offer you quite the array of animal breeds and personalites! Keep an open mind when visiting our shelter- you may find that your perfect match is not at all what you set out to find.
We're here to help you as well as our homeless and lovable animals.
