My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other dogs in need. Thank you!

Daisy looks straight into your soul with her big beautiful brown eyes and you can see her gentleness. She is VERY sweet, and somewhat shy when first meeting you, as she has probably lived a sheltered life. Her Dad evidently loved her to pieces and gave her too much table food, on top of Daisy having an untreated thyroid condition. She weighs--are you ready--135 lbs and should be about 100 as she's a large dog even without the extra weight. The good news is that Daisy has already started thyroid medicine to help her regain her figure and she will continue to feel and look so much better with regular exercise and proper nutrition.

Daisy rides great in the car and can jump up into it despite her chubbiness. She gets along really well with other dogs and has an easygoing nature. She walked fine on a leash and jumped right up into the van when she was picked up to come to our vet clinic. She also walked nicely into the clinic on leash and rode great in the car, about 2-1/2 hours. She is currently a little shy at the kennel, of course, wondering what has happened to her, poor thing.

Daisy has been well cared for (except for her weight!). She is heartworm negative, spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, and micro-chipped. Daisy is ready to accompany you on walks and errands and to just be with you, as she sheds her extra weight. This well-behaved, loving, and gentle dog deserves to receive all the love and attention she once knew. She will be traveling north in late September for adoption.

Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to become an important, forever part of their life journey by continuing the rehabilitation we have begun.

If you would like to be part of Daisy's rescue story, and you have already been approved for adoption through SGRR, please contact Candy to be considered to adopt Daisy.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants'life style.

The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. A contract is signed the day of adoption.

Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. As stated above, the dogs receive basic veterinary care. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Applicants with no dog ownership experience may not find they are a good match for one of our Rescues. Rescue Goldens come with 'baggage' and very little training so they require people that have an understanding of the nature of dogs and a willingness to work and seek help with one of our Golden Rescues if needed.

The adoption process has proven to be very successful for all. Our goal is to place rescues in their 'forever' homes and to do so, we need to determine is the best match not only for the dog but for the adopters. The Rescue's Committee determines what type of home the Golden needs and what type of dog would fit best in the applicants' homes. This has proven to make all involved very happy.

For more details or to complete an application, please visit our website at www.sunshinegoldenrescue.com

For those applicants that are willing to wait for the right 'match' and not shopping around, please feel free to apply and get pre-approved.

Our available Goldens and Golden Mixes are listed on our website, www.sunshinegoldenrescue.com

Anyone interested in adopting one of our available dogs must complete an application online.

We do not have a facility to visit our dogs, but once an applicant is approved and a possible match is determined, approved applicants will be given information on how to contact the rescue's foster for details or to schedule a meeting.

More about this rescue

We are a network of volunteers based in New England who are dedicated to saving and finding homes for Golden Retrievers and Retriever Mixes in need. We have volunteers throughout the North East including Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Vermont; as well as volunteers in the South East.

We work to save homeless Golden Retrievers and Retriever Mixes from shelters, municipal pounds, and dogs released directly from owners who can no longer care for them.

We do our best to assess each dog's medical needs, temperment, behavior, habits, and exercise needs. Each dog receives necessary vet care including all vaccinations and are spay/neutered before adoption if old enough. Heartworm testing is performed and if positive, the dog is treated. We then carefully select homes based on the needs of each individual Golden.

Everyone of our volunteers has a desire to save as many homeless dogs that we can. Individually, we can only rescue so many dogs in need. As a group, working together, we can help more Golden Retrievers and Golden Mixes find their forever home.

Our common thread may be our appreciation for the Golden Retriever, but if we could, we would save all dogs in need.

Our group is always in need of additional volunteers and fosters to help in the process which can be extremely rewarding. Other ways to help would be to make a monetary donation. For information on volunteer work, fostering, or to make a donation, please go to our website www.sunshinegoldenrescue.com Your help will be extremely appreciated!!
