My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mazey was adopted here years ago and sadly returned due to a housing change by her owner. She`s grown up with children and lived with both dogs and cats. She`s said to be playful with dogs and nuetral toward cats. She`s been left alone for 4-8 hrs at a time with no troubles. She loves walks and stops for sniffs as often as possible. She`s always had her own dog bed for sleeping at night. She`s described as friendly and obedient and we see that here and our hearts break for her. This is a such a tough transition for a 10 year old dog, let`s make her stay as short as possible by getting her invited to a new home very soon. She`s advocated for by her friends and fans including ClassicCaninesATX who are helping the mature dogs find pathways out. This lady may be of large scale but she`ll be an easy fit for so many homes.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
