We would love to welcome Lilah into the Fetch + Releash family September 15, 2024, subject to change. In order for Lilah to come into our care, we need a committed family. As a foster-to-adopt family, you'll be expected to take him/her home on his/her arrival date. You will then have two weeks to get to know your new furry house guest before committing to adoption. At the end of two weeks, if you choose not to move forward with adoption, we simply ask that you continue to provide a safe and loving home until their new forever family can be found.
Each bio was created by our rescue partners based on their interactions with the dogs. Fetch + Releash has a full disclosure policy however we cannot guarantee a dog against parasites or diseases, nor can we guarantee a dog's nature/behaviour. Many of these dogs are coming directly from the shelter and so you should expect there to be a transitional period. Be prepared to deal with common issues like potty training, leash walking, and socialization. Cat and kid safety assessments are often based on their personality and not necessarily on actual interactions.
Where possible, the majority of vetting will be completed prior to coming to Canada, however, foster-to-adopt families may be required to travel to our partner vet in Mississauga, ON for further vet care.
During your foster-to-adopt trial, you'll receive the support of a Fetch + Releash mentor to help you through the transition and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
Foster-to-adopt families will be required to pay a $200 deposit on the adoption fee and sign our foster-to-adopt waiver in advance. If you choose not to adopt, your $200 will be refunded to you within 30 days of your dog being adopted into a new family provided you see your pup through to adoption. If you choose not to see your dog through to adoption, you will forfeit your deposit.

Lilah / Female / 1 year and 10 months / 45 pounds / Mixed Breed / from Tennessee
Meet Lilah, a true gem in every sense. Her beauty shines inside and out, making her a remarkable young girl. However, her early life wasn't as kind as she deserved, as she was abandoned at a tender age and missed out on formal training. Lilah has grown up in the rescue environment and will require an adjustment period when landing in her forever home as she has only known a life outdoors.
Lilah is looking for someone committed to working with her on her basic training. She enjoys human affection and her eagerness to learn shows her potential to flourish in the right environment. She has had some exposure to walking on leash and with continued practice she will be a pro in no time. A home with a backyard will provide a safe and comforting space to work on training but is not required. Once adjusted she will need 2-3 walks per day mixed with playtime and some doggy enrichment. Play based training would work wonders in building a strong bond as well as her confidence. House training, crate training and mastering walking on leash will be the first training tasks to work through.
Lilah may become anxious in chaotic environments, as she thrives in a quieter setting where she can feel safe. Providing gradual exposure to things will aid in her confidence. At times, she might be vocal when seeking attention, but this is simply her way of expressing her needs and longing for companionship.
Lilah will surely make a wonderful family dog for those with older children (10+) who can respect her space and time she may need to decompress. While a confident resident dog could potentially aid in her success with feeling confident, it's not a requirement. She truly loves the companionship of other dogs and has had the opportunity to live alongside many different canines while in her rescuers care making her a wonderful second dog. During a brief cat test we believe Lilah could adapt to a life alongside a dog savvy feline friend, ensuring proper introductions, boundaries and supervision until trust has been built. With the right guidance and a loving owner, Lilah is sure to be the biggest love bug. She has so much love to offer, and she's just waiting for the right family to show her the wonderful life she deserves.

When she came into care, Lilah tested positive for ehrlichia which is a tick borne disease that can stay in the bloodstream for many years. Further testing confirmed that the ehrlichia is in a dormant state and Lilah should not experience any clinical symptoms. It is recommended that ehrlichia positive dogs get an annual blood test to monitor the anaplasmosis and that any pre-op blood work should include a CBC test and platelet count before any surgeries or dental extractions.

To adopt one of our dogs, please fill out an application at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form. Although we do our best to reply to all inquiries within 72 hours, please remember we are a volunteer-run organization. We appreciate your patience.
If we think your application has potential to be a good fit, a Fetch + Releash volunteer will contact you to set up a time to speak over the phone and conduct the home visit. In addition to the phone interview and home visit, we also require personal, veterinarian, and landlord reference if applicable.
After the phone interview, home visit & reference check, you will then be granted a private meet and greet with the dog.
After the meet and greet, the adoption committee will then review your completed application and make a final decision.
