My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mitzi is an adorable Dachshund/Chihuahua-mix. Se is approximately 1 years old and 10.5lbs. Much of her appearance seems to her doxie side..cute floppy ears, long body, adorable feet and big chocolatey eyes that will control you.

Mitzi enjoys the other little dogs in her foster homes. She likes to throw toys around and if its got a squeaker, that toy is gonna squeak.

Mitzi is good on leash yet there is room for improvement. As Mitzi goes on more walks, she will learn to pull a bit less and to move a bit faster. Mitzi has passed many dogs on her walks and no reaction big or small.

Mitzi loves her foster mom's lap but we know any loving lap will make Mitzi happy. She is shy for just minutes when new people visit. And Mitzi will gently request to come up for a snuggle.

Mitzi is spayed, vaccinated and micro-chipped.

Grateful Dogs Rescue incurs substantial veterinary and other expenses in rescuing our dogs. In order to recoup some of these costs, we request a tax-deductible donation for each adoption. The suggested donation for MITZY is $300.

The Grateful Dogs Rescue adoption procedure is designed to find a good match between the dog and adopter. Our goal is a happy foster to forever transition. The adoption procedure includes an application, interview, home check, and an adoption donation. The adoption donation helps to cover spay/neuter, shots and other medical care given before the dog is made available for adoption.

Grateful Dogs Rescue was founded in 1990; its mission is to rescue dogs not made available for adoption at San Francisco Animal Care and Control, and other local shelters, through no fault of their own. Rather than letting these dogs be euthanized, Grateful Dogs saves as many as possible by fostering these dogs in a loving home until a forever loving home is found.

Grateful Dogs Rescue is always in need of new foster homes! You can make a difference by fostering. The number of dogs we can save is dependent on having foster parents to care for them until they find their forever homes. All of our dogs are in foster care.
