This helps Malinois and Dutch Shepherd Rescue, Inc. with pet care costs.
Atlas is a lovable, handsome guy whose favorite place is right beside his person. Indoors, on a walk, or in the boat, Atlas is a true Velcro boy. Do you like to paddle board? So does Atlas! Go out fishing or for a drive? Atlas is your guy!
Atlas loves to please and is very loyal and protective. He kennels easily, walks well on a leash, and loves quiet walks. He is great with other dogs and tolerates cats (with supervision). He is overall a very good boy. But a few particular triggers cause him to become very fearful, and he needs an understanding, experienced person to help him let go of his fears. Something happened to him before coming into MAD. His normally compliant, happy self can be reset to full fear-reactivity when loud vehicles, bikes, or motorcycles come to close. Vacuums and lawn mowers aren’t a favorite either. Once triggered, he can go into attack mode to “protect” himself against the feared object. Atlas needs a person with patience and sound technique to help him slowly desensitize to his triggers.
Playful and spirited, Atlas loves to play fetch with balls, play with his toys and will happily entertain himself when his person is busy. He enjoys working on obedience and responds well to praise, petting and treats. He even knows German commands! Atlas receives praises from staff when he is boarded for his calm demeaner and great interactions with other dogs.
With a quiet environment for decompression, consistent structure, regular obedience training, and the support to let go of his fears, this intelligent, loving boy will make someone a fantastic companion!
All MAD dogs come with a Fi Collar and one-year subscription.
