My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Panda is a 2-year-old adorable floofy ball of love looking for his forever home!

Panda loves humans. Once he knows you he will roll onto his stomach or rub against you seeking pets the moment you walk into the room. The second you walk in the door you should be prepared to be followed by a cute little shadow. He prefers to be somewhere near his humans at all times, so sometimes you’ll find your little shadow playing or sleeping right beside you. After you have earned his trust as best friend he will give you the most adorable kitty kisses, stretching on his hind legs to push his mouth and nose against yours and then sometimes briefly licking your lips. He wants you to know how much he loves you and how grateful he is to have you in his life!

Pandas hobbies include playing with toys, zooming around the house, or sleeping. He loves to have a place to hide (box, behind furniture) when he sleeps. He also just likes to be near his humans and watch them. Humans are fascinating creatures, even more interesting than birds!

Panda enjoys tons of different play toys from glitter balls to wands to toy mice, oh my!. He especially likes the catnip banana!! He loves to play and will happily entertain himself for hours. He does get the zoomies like many young cats. For a two-year-old cat he is VERY energetic even though he is no longer a kitten. He will bring toys to wherever you are and play with them near you, even better is when you play with him.

Currently Panda lives in a large home with four other cats. He has become best friends with one of them, gets along well with the other two, and is afraid of the large 18-lb short hair blackie. We suspect he was in an animal fight before capture so large animals cause him anxiety.

Panda sadly lost one of his eyes due to an outdoor accident before entering Pet Haven care. Because of his hesitation around animals bigger than 15lbs, we predict that his eye was perhaps damaged during a fight. The good news is that his missing eye doesn't phase him in the slightest. He plays, cuddles, and looks for pets just the same! Thankfully his longer fur covers the eye area so it just looks like he’s giving the cutest little wink.

Panda's ideal home would be one in which his humans are home most of the day, or he has a friendly young cat to keep him company and companionship. Because of the trauma of his eye situation, Panda needs slow and predictabel intros to new animals. The integration period will be integral in ensuring a successful and lasting bond. That said, he also does just as well as an only cat as long as his humans are dedicated to playing and exercising him. Panda would love nothing more than a coxy home with a couple loving humans to call his own. If that sounds like your home, apply ---below!

Additional adoption info

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.

Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer

How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.

Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.

We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
