My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please go to our website at www.milehighlabmission.com to find out more about this pet and to submit an adoption application.

Please DO NOT call or email us; all information about current dogs available, adoption donations, vetting, and this specific dog are on our website.

We are a non-profit organization and we are completely 100% volunteer run.

We DO NOT have a shelter and only approved applicants can make appointments with our foster homes to meet the dogs we have.

Our volunteers will not discuss dogs we have available for adoption UNTIL you have an application on file and are approved to adopt.

General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.

Personality | Sweet, Gentle, Playful with high level of Energy, Not agressive at all. Not food motivated.

Story | Meet Ranger, the only stud you'll ever need! This 7-year-old Labrador comes from a breeder in northern Colorado, where he trained as a pointer and bird dog, earning multiple awards in show and agility. Now retired from his stud duties, Ranger is ready to find his forever family and settle into a life of love, play, and relaxation.

Ranger recently experienced living indoors for the first time, and he's adapted beautifully. He’s become quite fond of his crate, using it as his go-to spot for rest or when he wants some downtime. Potty training has been going well too—Ranger has a charming habit of spinning in circles by the door to let you know he needs to go outside.

Despite his age, Ranger is an active and lively companion. He enjoys 3-4 walks a day, ranging from 20 minutes to an hour, and is excellent on a leash. He only pulls when an interesting scent catches his attention! Ranger is polite when meeting new people, always sitting to say hello. He's generally good with dogs, though he prefers to avoid dominant ones and isn’t fond of meeting females in heat.

Ranger would do best as the only pet or with an adult/older dog in an active home with a yard where he can run around and play. He knows commands like sit, up, down, stay, heel, and fetch, and is currently learning “lay down.” Interestingly for a Lab, Ranger isn’t food motivated, so counter-surfing won’t be an issue.

If you’re looking for a sweet, well-trained, and loyal Labrador to join your family, Ranger is the perfect match!

Other Dogs | Great with other dogs he has met so far, tends to sway away from puppies.

Cats | Unkown

Children | Ranger is great with kids aged 3 and up. As an energetic and playful Labrador, he doesn’t quite realize his size, so he might accidentally bump into younger children. Older kids who can match his energy and enjoy an active, playful dog would likely be the best fit for him.

Training | Super smart, trained as a pointer and bird dog, has learned heel and stay very well. Currently working on laydown.

Leash | Ranger is doing great on a leash, he only pulls when he sees a squirrel or picks up a sent.

Activity Level | Ranger is a medium level active dog, he loves going on hikes, swimming, and playing fetch. His normal day consist of 2-3 walks a day. On average his schedule with his fosters have been a 30 minute in the morning, an hour walk in the evenings and one or two 20 minute walks in the afternoon. When he is inside he magically turns into the biggest couch potato and just stretches near you and falls a sleep.

Health Notes | Healthy! Ranger is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm NEGATIVE!

Thank you!

Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog).

Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only.  To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process.

Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption.

We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!

We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved.  Your application is good for 90 days from the time of approval for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.
