My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Leo in the foster home is a playful and adventurous little feline, always ready to pounce on his favorite toys with boundless energy. He has mastered the art of hide and seek in the household, often surprising his humans with his clever hiding spots. Leo enjoys exploring every nook and cranny of the house, always curious about what lies around the corner. Despite his mischievous antics, he finds comfort in the presence of other animals, seeking solace in their companionship. Leo is a vocal chatterbox, expressing his thoughts and feelings with a variety of meows and purrs. When it's time to unwind, Leo can be found lounging on the little couch, basking in the warmth of the sun. He has a gentle demeanor, allowing his humans to give him head, ear, and back pets and scratches without a fuss, showcasing his trust and affection towards them.

More about this shelter

The South Suburban Humane Society is a 501(c )(3) organization that was started in 1970, serving the animal welfare needs of the entire south suburbs of Chicago. In the beginning, we handled all rescues, adoptions and provided foster care out of private homes. Since November 1973, our organization has been operating a 10,000 square foot open-door animal shelter in Chicago Heights, Illinois.

For over fifty years, our organization has helped tens of thousands of animals. We offer extensive outreach programs including humane education, and community outreach events. We also operate a resale shop located in Steger, Illinois that promotes our organization, our animals and provide much needed income to support our humane work.

The Mission of the South Suburban Humane Society is to protect and promote the well being of pets and their people in our community and beyond.
