Hi, my name is Hendrix, and I’d like to apply for the job as your new best friend (NBF).

First, a little bit about my history. I was found wandering the streets of Chicago and taken to Chicago Animal Care and Control. I had been shot multiple times with a paint gun. It was my lucky day when CARE selected me for transport to Skokie and placed me in a foster home while I wait to find my forever person/family. Now for some of my qualifications for the NBF position. I really adore people not just my foster family but everyone I meet when out for walks. Adults, men, women, I approach all with a wagging tail and smile, asking to be pet. I would prefer a home with older children. And speaking of walks, my foster mom says I have excellent leash manners and am very observant of people, other dogs, and nature.

I also enjoy running around in the yard. After about 10 minutes, I’ve used up my energy and am ready to go back inside. Indoors, one of my talents, aside from snuggling (at which I excel) and playing with my toys, is rearranging shoes. I wouldn’t think of chewing on them, but if you’re searching for the slipper you left in the hall, you may find it relocated to the kitchen. No need to thank me, it’s all part of the BFF service. I also like to nibble on plastic things and shred (but never eat) tissue I discover in the waste basket. But rest assured, if you ever want to take anything out of my mouth—be it food, a toy, or a tantalizing Kleenex--absolutely no problem. I always give it up willingly.

A few other facts about me. When we’re going out, whether for a walk or for playtime in the yard, I always sit at the door and wait for the “okay” command. Also, I’m totally reliable when it comes to potty training and will go in my crate, although reluctantly (given my history). My foster mom uses a walk-in closet as my crate. She puts a peanut butter-filled Kong in my bed to encourage me to go in, then I’m good for the entire night. I am also enrolled in training class.

I guess that’s all I have to tell you about myself. I hope you decide that I’m an excellent candidate for your NBF and will fill out an adoption application and schedule a meet and greet. One last thing. If you’re interested in dressing me up (Halloween and the other holidays aren’t that far away), remember that my black and white coat goes with any color!

I have been microchipped and neutered and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines. My adoption fee is $325. For more information or if you would like to meet me, please fill out an adoption survey at carenorthshore.org/dog-adoption-survey

Love and licks,
Hendrix

Our fees include a full medical exam by a veterinarian. Dogs receive a Heartworm Check, Spay/Neuter, Rabies and Distemper Vaccines, Canine Flu Vaccine, deworming, and Kennel Cough preventative. Our modest adoption fees do not cover the procedures and vet work that we provide the animals. We fundraise to make up the difference. Any ongoing medical needs that C.A.R.E. is aware of are explained fully, (including daily medicine costs), to the potential adopter, and become the responsibility of the adopter.
