My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Max! Max doesn't think an introduction is necessary because he's kind of famous. You see, Max was on the run through three Connecticut towns for about a month with a community of dog lovers coming together to try and catch him. He says he could have kept going, but those people all seemed really nice and he settled down in Newington to eventually let himself get caught. We're not surprised that Max willingly surrendered because this guy is a people LOVER. At about 65 pounds, he may look intimidating, but he is a true gentle giant. He’s about 4-5 years old, great with other dogs, and loves going for long walks with lots of sniffs. Max does some signature whining when our volunteers leave for the night and it breaks our hearts. But we keep telling him not to worry - his very own home and furever family are just around the corner. If you're interested in being Max's dream come true, please fill out an application and email lisa.b@poainc.org for more information!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We do have a screening and application process. Protectors of Animals requires a veterinarian check before any adoption.

One of our experienced Placement Team members will meet with you and show you the cat, kitten or dog you are interested in, or will guide you towards cats, kittens or dogs that are appropriate for your home environment. We will discuss with you the background of the cat, kitten or dog and what special needs or requirements he or she may have. We will happily take the time to carefully answer any questions you have or discuss any concerns.

POA does not charge an adoption “fee.” It costs POA anywhere from $100 and $400, or more, per dog or cat or kitten to make them well and prepare them for adoption. We are an all-donation organization and we rely on adoption donations to help us continue our work. When you adopt a cat or dog, we will ask for a donation. Our adoption donation information can be found at our website at www.poainc.org.

More about this rescue

We are a NO-Kill rescue and shelter for cats and dogs.

POA was formed in 1975 to rescue abandoned, abused and stray cats and dogs. Today we are one of the oldest and most respected animal welfare organizations in the northeast. POA is here to stay! You will not find a more dedicated, experienced or thorough resource for improving the lives of Connecticut cats and dogs. We confine our focus to our home state because this is where our infrastructure and resources reside, as well as our leadership.
