My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Ford—76 pounds of pure heart, wrapped in a fluffy Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd mix. Ford’s the kind of dog who’ll steal your heart...and maybe a BBQ rib or two if you're not careful in the kitchen. He has perfected the art of the "puppy dog eyes" and will follow you from room to room like it’s his full-time job. Affection is his currency, and he’s willing to spend it all on his human. Ford has finally traded in his “shelter blues” for the cozy comforts of a loving home, after a stint of nearly three months in the shelter. Now he’s on a mission to show his new family just how sweet life can be!

Ford has a solid approach to meeting new people—if he loves you, brace yourself for one of his signature “hug jumps.” He’s not one to smother strangers, but once he’s bonded, you’ll get front-row access to his exclusive cuddle sessions. He’s got a slight romantic streak, always charming the ladies with his Casanova antics. Luckily, neutering has kept things PG! Ford is as sweet as a dessert table at a wedding, but he has a knack for leaving his "mark" around the house—kind of like how the guys in our lives seem to think the laundry basket is a mythical creature that only exists in fairy tales. His neutering is definitely helping him dial down the enthusiasm, but alas, we’re still working on a solution for those mysteriously abandoned clothes. If only we had a magic wand for that too!

Despite his size, Ford is surprisingly laid-back. He’ll wrestle with the big dogs, let the small ones boss him around, and then be perfectly happy to chill on the floor while you binge-watch your favorite show. The couch? Eh, it’s for lesser dogs—Ford prefers the cool embrace of the floor. When it comes to outings, Ford is your perfect companion. He loves a good adventure, whether it’s to the park or the pet store. On a leash, he’s practically a saint, and he’ll stroll beside you without trying to pull or trip you into a bush. Public outings? Absolutely! Ford is always down to meet new people and dogs, but he’s equally content being a homebody, lounging around like a fluffy rug. When it comes to cats, Ford is pretty laid-back. He’s more “meh, they’re around” than “let’s play!” He’s tolerant and doesn’t make a fuss over them, so if you’ve got a feline friend, Ford will give them the space they need while maintaining his cool. Kids are another story—Ford loves to give hugs and affection, which means small children should be watched carefully. He’s enthusiastic in his affections and might inadvertently knock over a toddler or two in his excitement. If you’ve got older kids who can handle a big, affectionate dog, Ford will be a happy and loving part of the family.

Ford’s house manners are the stuff of legend—or at least, they should be. First off, Ford’s not the kind of dog to redecorate your home with his teeth. Your furniture, shoes, and that precious collection of vintage vinyls are safe from his chomping ambitions. He’s also not a fan of digging holes in the yard, which is a bonus if you’ve ever tried to grow a garden without canine intervention. Now, about that kennel… let’s just say Ford isn’t a fan. Crates are for eating, not for staying in. If you forget to let him out, don’t worry—he’ll either let you know or stage an escape plan that might rival a Houdini act. Speaking of Houdini acts, Ford is a true Pyr in which...If he spots adventure beyond the fence, you can bet he’ll be first in line to check it out. So unless you’re keen on sprinting through the neighborhood in your pajamas, we highly recommend a privacy or non-climbable fence to keep this adventurous spirit grounded—and save you from becoming the star of next year’s holiday party slideshow! 😉 But hey, if you’re all about adventures and daily strolls, Ford’s your guy. Why even bother with a fence? This boy is a leash-walking extraordinaire, always ready for a new adventure. If you and your leash are up for daily explorations, he’ll happily trade the backyard for neighborhood escapades. Ford believes the best adventures are the ones with his favorite person and a never-ending path ahead!
