Dog Name: Elkins
Breed: Mix
Sex: Male
Age: approximately 5 months old
Weight: 15 lbs approximately ( we expect that he will be a small to medium dog when full grown)
Medical Needs: He will need to be neutered.
The neuter appointment will be in Delaware and it will be the adopters responsibility to bring him to the appointment. The adopter must live within an hour of Delaware.
Housebroken: Not yet, but working on it! Elkins will potty when outside but is still working on it as he only arrived 2 weeks ago. He does do well during the day by going outside every few hours, but will have accidents during the night.
Crate trained:
Elkins goes right into his crate, however at times, he will bark. Covering his crate quiets him down quickly.
Good in the car: He has not been on any car rides since he arrived approximately 2 weeks ago. However, I am sure will be a great little rider.
Good on a leash: We are working on leash training. He is a very smart little guy and learns quickly.
Need a fenced in yard: Not necessary but will need frequent walks throughout the day, especially while being potty trained!
Dog Friendly:
If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes?
Elkins and his brother spent most of their young lives in a shelter, and when he arrived in Delaware he was quite shy and scared. However, over the past few weeks, he has been gaining confidence and feeling more secure. Elkins is very tentative around other dogs, but when he becomes comfortable with them he is fine. It would be helpful for him to have another dog to help him with his confidence but is not necessary, as long as he is continuously socialized with other dogs.
Cat Friendly?
Elkins doesn’t seem to pay any attention to our dog savvy cats and as a puppy, I believe he will do well with cats.
Kid Friendly:
If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with?
Elkins has not yet met any children, however as a puppy, I am sure that he would be great with any age under proper supervision.
Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?
Elkins arrived very timid as he spent most of his young life in a shelter. Over the past few weeks, he has adjusted well and is a very quick learner. Elkins loves to be held and will snuggle as long as you will. He gives kisses and is extremely affectionate.
