My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Cookie Dough, a handsome and mellow guy who's ready for a fresh start in a loving home where he can truly decompress. Cookie Dough arrived as a stray on 9/9 after being picked up by our Animal Protection Officers. He was adopted on October 1st and was returned on October 3rd due to some reactivity towards men and defensiveness when in his crate.

Cookie Dough enjoys outdoor time, whether walking or running by your side. While he's polite with other dogs and allows pets, Cookie Dough is a bit aloof and prefers affection on his own terms. You'll find him happiest and his tail wagging when there are treats involved-especially if they're hotdogs, his absolute favorite! Cookie Dough is patient and easygoing but appreciates a gentle approach, particularly around his back legs, where he can be a little sensitive. He loves scratches around his shoulders and sides, and with a bit of space and understanding, he's sure to come out of his shell. If you're looking for a companion who needs time to unwind and trust, Cookie Dough could be your perfect match. He's ready to find an adult-only home where he can relax and thrive at his own pace.

BEHAVIOR:
Per staff 10/4: KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Cookie Dough was standing on his bed with soft eyes and a wagging tail. He came right up to the door and tried to dart out of kennel but was caught through the loop and came right out.

LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls strongly

HANDLING:
Once in the eval room he sniffed and looked around the room, pacing around the corners and ignoring the handlers. He is very aloof and doesn't pay us any mind. He allows all handling and was very playful. He did tons of zoomies and remained very goofy but did not mount or get super aroused or nippy with play.
PLAY
Engages in play

TOYS:

Did not attempt

Per volunteer 9/25: Good boy

Per volunteer 9/13: Sweet boy!! Super easy for leashing and greeted me very loose and wiggly. He pulls quite a bit to get outside but with a harness was much better. He likes treats and took them pretty gently! Didn't seem to know many commands. He had a great meet with Howl who was a bit overstimulated and Cooke Dough remained loose and wiggly. He was very loose and easy the whole time we were out. No issues getting back into his kennel. Hopefully someone scoops this boy up!

Per volunteer 9/10: Cookie Dough was delighted to leave his kennel and had no issue walking past the other dogs.outside he seemed housetrained. We went for a run together just over a mile and he seemed to enjoy that. Back at ACCT he didn't mind other dogs at all. He permitted pets but did not solicit pets or wag his tail. He's a very handsome guy!

9/10 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Stray
Cookie Dough was in a kennel with neutral eyes and body, he came forward when he saw the leash. He started wagging once he sniffed the leash. He was patient and came right out once secured.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pull minimally- moderately
HANDLING:
Once Cookie Dough was outside he went around to use the bathroom and sniffed for treats. He took treats snatchy at times and gentle at other times. He remained pretty aloof and only seemed to wag when treats were involved. He tolerated pets but would pin back his ears and become a little tense. He allowed most handling and remained neutral but stiffened up at times. He loves scratches around his shoulder and side and will do anything for a hotdog. He is a little more sensitive with his back legs, head whipping slightly and tensing up.
PLAY
No interest
TOYS:
Wags his tail for toys and mouths at them
COLOR LEVEL & ANY RECOMMENDATIONS:
Blue

Per Staff 9/10:Volunteer said that Cookie walked well on leash but did not want to be touched at all.

MEDICAL:
On 9/14, Cookie Dough was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" as he had yellow nasal discharge and was sneezing. He tested positive for pneumovirus, but has since tested negative on 9/23. He has completed his course of antibiotics.

During his intake exam on 9/9, Cookie Dough was noted to be in good health besides some tartar on his teeth.

Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal.

ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details.

If you are a rescue interested in pulling this animal, please email our lifesaving team, or visit here if you are not currently a rescue partner: https://acctphilly.org/acct-philly-love-local-partnership-program/

Confirmed placement is considered a confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent.

All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia, as the only open-intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia. ACCT Philly's Pennsylvania kennel license number is 08313.
