HARPER NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!

Name:  Harper         Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd and retriever mix

Best Guess for Age: 1 year as of July 2024       SEX:  Female

Approximate Weight: 53 lbs

Gets Along With: Other Dogs! The perfect doggie BFFs for Harper are dogs her size who know how to have fun without getting in her face. No one likes a dog who won’t respect personal space, and Harper appreciates boundaries. Harper was tested with some of the cats when she was at the shelter and Harper did seem interested in chasing the cats, but seemed to want to play. We would be cautious about placing her in a home with a cat, unless the cat had lived with dogs before.

Currently Living at:  DC area foster home!

Check out Harper's video! She knows sit, shake and lie down: https://youtu.be/5CY_DI60TZg.

Harper is Looking For:   A forever family that can provide a good balance of active, and a cozy lap for cuddles after a good day of play. This beautiful mama landed in the shelter nursing two puppies. She did an amazing job of raising her babies and they've gotten their own forever homes. While her puppies were quickly adopted, Harper has been eagerly awaiting her next chapter. Harper would like her next chapter to include a home where she can enjoy an energetic, yet peaceful life with just her humans or  calming fellow pups; She’s not a fan of chaotic pack dynamics. The one where she gets her own forever humans for long sniffy walks, runs, play dates with friends, and all the adventures they can dream up. The one where she gets quality kibble and a cushy dog bed. And above all - the one where she knows she's safe and loved and under her own roof for all her days.

In exchange, she has quite the stockpile of adoring gazes and happy tail wags to offer her new humans. And incredibly loyal companionship and all the love in her heart. What do you say? Are you Harper's new chapter?

What My Foster Says About Me:  Harper's original foster has said she is a lovable dynamo with a heart as big as her bouncy personality! This sweetheart settled in like a pro with her friendly personality and is an absolute joy to be around. Harper absolutely loves people and playtime but also has been busy mastering her training skills. She has picked up sit, paw/shake and coming when called.

She is also food motivated and incredibly gentle when taking treats. Harper has been so patiently waiting for her forever home!

Harper was in boarding while she waited for a new foster home and she continued to show staff just how smart she is. During her walks, she has been continuing to work on wait/stay, take it, drop it, leave it and has done great with the place command.

She has just found a new foster, and has quickly won her foster's heart.

Harper is ready to give all her love to a home that can offer her the right balance of playtime, quiet time, and maybe a cozy spot by the window to watch the world go by. In return, she’ll bring a lot of heart, a little bit of hilarity, and some serious cuddles into your life. She’s ready to make you laugh, love you fiercely, and maybe even keep your feet warm in the winter.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!

Go meet their pets

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.
