Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
We are helping Pepper's finder with a courtesy post. If you can give Pepper the right home, please contact Christ Meisman at 801-602-9009 or email at christaliana@gmail.com We think Pepper is about 10-12 years old. Pepper was found matted and underfed, snuggling with adoring neighborhood kids. We know that her family abandoned her and for 2-3 years, she's lived on the streets. Hours later, I returned to scoop her into my van. She was going by Dusty in that neighborhood, but now she’s Pepper, because Dusty sounds neglected and sad, and Pepper served as both a cute name and an introduction. She's incredibly friendly, but understandably traumatized and defensive. We learned the hard way that her owner should expect to transport her to the vet in a large crate, and pay for sedation at every appointment. ;) Over the summer her coat has started growing back, and she’s put on weight beautifully. My favorite thing about Pepper is her love for classical music. When I sit at the piano, she comes from anywhere in the house to listen. Sometimes she even plays the keys a bit, but often, she climbs into my lap, plants her face in my arm, and closes her eyes to listen. Something about the music is incredibly familiar and calming to her. I would cry for joy if she went to a home with musicians or where classical music often echoes through the house. The feral cats outside picked on her, so cats are scary. She has grown to tolerate my friendly cat, but will hiss and fight if her boundaries aren't respected (and my curious kitty has the self-restraint of a raindrop). Some dogs are okay, some are not. She would thrive best as an only pet.

More about this rescue
Our goal is to promote the health and care of pets in your community through involvement, education and prevention (spay/neuter), to give a voice to the animals in need and to provide a means for others to help in the plight of dogs and cats in need of assistance, care and homes. Through the means of rescue, volunteering and fostering we can help accomplish the ultimate goal of providing quality care and humane lives for dogs and cats in Texas. We strive to work with individuals, county facilities, other rescues and local communities.
Founded in 2011 as MCASociety to support our local animal shelter, we soon learned we should strive to do more and rebranded to Texas Animal Society. Reaching beyond our local shelter to help the community and others as well as our shelter.
TAS is strictly operated by donations. All donations directly benefit animal welfare and care of dogs and cats.
Please consider donating to TAS for the continued rescue efforts and vetting for dogs and cats in need.
