UPDATE 4/7/2025: Johnny Cash is such a good boy. He loves to run and play in the yard. He is full of energy and needs walking and zoomie time daily. We continue to monitor him for his CT and with medications and monitoring he is doing well. He is ready for adoption. We cannot understand why this guy is still here. Johnny Cash is new to us in rescue. He looks like a yorkie mix. He is definitely a terrier mix so he will need monthly trips to a professional groomer to maintain his coat. The shelter estimates his age to be around 2 years. So far Johnny Cash seems like a happy go lucky little boy. He is young and full of energy. If you have the time and energy to train a puppy, please apply now. He is a love bug! Johnny Cash is up to date on vaccines, neutered and microchipped. He is ready for his new home. MEDICAL INFORMATION: Johnny Cash has a condition known as collapsing trachea. When he came to us from the shelter he had a bad case of kennel cough requiring treatment. Since then he continued to have issues with his trachea and we followed up with his vet to diagnose the condition. You can read more about collapsing trachea here. It can be managed by your local veterinarian with medication as well as other options but it should be monitored regularly. More about this rescue
The founding members of our rescue are dog lovers. Especially, small dogs! When we saw the need to help so many small dogs of various breeds and mixes, we collaborated to form a non-breed-specific rescue to help as many small dogs as possible. Our mission is to help dogs who weigh up to 20 pounds.
Adoption is not first come first served. We match our dogs to potential owners to ensure the best outcomes for all involved! Our philosophy is: Rescue - Rehabilitate - Rejoice!
Our mission statement is as follows:
Compact Canine Rescue is a network of volunteers committed to rehabilitating small dogs and rehoming them with forever families on the east coast of the United States. We are passionate about promoting responsible pet parenting and educating the public on what makes dogs healthy and happy.
