Cowboy is just the sweetest dog that anyone can meet. He weighs in around 50 pounds as a young adult of around one year old and is a border collie mix. Found has a stray and needing assistance to achieve optimum health, Cowboy does not hold any grudges. He is always delighted to meet new people and make friends.
Border Collies are known for their intelligence, as well as being energetic and active. They are even tempered and eager to please. They literally thrive on being around people and having activities to do. They make good companions for active families that like to be outdoors.
Cowboy is no exception. He loves to give and receive attention. He is comfortable playing with other dogs and kids of all ages. It is not known if he has ever met a cat.
As to training, it is best to start with a refresher course in crate, house, and leash training as he is in the process of learning his skill set. Before he can spend time in a crate, he will need to have an established bathroom routine (always after eating, playing, sleeping, and before bedtime). Cowboy will also need plenty of exercise and lots of attention before time in a crate.
Having an established bathroom routine, been given lots of attention and exercise, he will be ready to be introduced to his new crate which must be a cozy, warm, and positive place. In the beginning he will only use it for short periods of time. Eventually, the time can be increased based on his comfortableness with this second home.
Daily exercise will support leash skills as well as socialization skills. It will be a new world to him with all the new sights, smells, sounds, and people along his walk. Hiking with family? You bet.
He will also benefit from mental stimulation in the form of activities and play toys. It will prevent boredom, as collies like to be kept busy.
Be the family that will be an intricate part of his daily and home life. Cowboy will reward you will all of the love he has to give.
