My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Are you looking for a new best friend? One that is playful, ready to take on any adventure, but also will snuggle in your lap the moment the opportunity presents itself? That is the energy that Samson will bring to your life every day!

He is the perfect companion, with a cheerful nature and love for exploring that can rival any other pup. Want to go for a morning hike? Samson will be ready at the door. Want to play some tug? It’s only his favorite game in the world. Want to snuggle on the couch? He`s already there with a blanket waiting.

Samson is a goofy, affectionate boy who enjoys following you around with his favorite toy, Rhino, plopping into your lap and rolling over for belly rubs, and cuddling up right against you (or on top of you) during naptime! He is curious by nature, loves a good sunbathe, shakes his butt excitedly when drinking water, and is always up to try new things!

Samson finds his confidence quickly when faced with a new task and responds well to encouragement. He is 100% potty trained and his eagerness to learn coupled with his intelligence has allowed him to quickly pick up on many cues, such as: sit, down, touch, counting to 3, `go potty`, free, leave it, and wait. He also knows how to be calm when exiting the crate and come when called.

Samson truly is the quintessential puppy with floppy ears, cute little head tilts, big puppy eyes, and giant paws as he bounds around pouncing on his toys. He radiates warmth and joy, loving all people, dogs, and any new friends that he happens to meet - all that he asks for is love in return.

Will you be the lucky human that gets to discover life’s greatest moments with this one-of-a-kind boy?

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year.
