Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Gertie, a sweet and gentle 1-year-old pup with a heartwarming story of resilience. Rescued from a high-kill Texas shelter, Gertie gave birth to 9 puppies on the day she was set to be euthanized. Despite her tough start, Gertie’s loving nature shines through. She's docile, submissive, and plays well with other dogs, while being non-reactive toward cats. Gertie sleeps quietly in her crate and enjoys both playtime and relaxing by your side. Due to her past, she needs a patient and loving home, especially when it comes to warming up to men. Could you be the one to show her the world?
FEE INCLUDES: Adopting an adult dog (6 months or older) includes spaying/neutering, vaccinations, deworming, flea & tick prevention, heartworm testing, and microchipping.
For dogs under 6 months, they receive age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, flea/tick prevention, and microchipping. All dogs are spayed/neutered by 6 months, covered within the adoption fee. The procedure must be done at one of our partner clinics.
To begin the adoption process, please submit an application on our website: www.hbwi.org/adopt. Once approved, you'll have the opportunity to meet our available dogs. Following the meeting, you can initiate a 5-day Adoption Trial, allowing you to take the dog home. This trial period is designed to ensure the dog is a match for you and aligns with your lifestyle. After the 5-day trial, if all goes well, the adoption will be finalized. Additionally, we require a home visit once the dog is settled in its new home to ensure a smooth transition for both the dog and the adopter.

As a foster-based rescue organization, we do not have a central boarding facility for our animals. If you are interested in meeting one of our available animals, we highly encourage you to submit an adoption application. Once approved, you will be able to meet our animals.
