Meet the Pet
Cooper is a two year old Belgian Malinois/Pit bull mix. He is looking for a very special home. He is a very, very intelligent dog - but this results in him being an overthinker. He overanalyzes people's body language and can be too sensitive and picky with new people. Cooper isn't reactive to all strangers, he isn't even reactive to most strangers - but, if he loves you, he loves you and if he hates you, he doesn't tend to ever warm up to you. Cooper was adopted from animal control over a year ago and his owners brought him in to receive help from our training program because his new Dad is one of the people he decided he just doesn't like/trust. Despite hard work from his family for a year, he still does not like Dad. He has met many strangers during that year - including both male and female trainers at our center - and he does well with most new people, it is a very select few people that he can become defensive with. He is already muzzle conditioned and has excelled in his training and basic obedience and is not difficult to safely manage when out in public - he isn't reactive to anyone that is not directly trying to touch him and even then, it is only some people. He is looking for an experienced handler - prior experience with a stranger reactive dog would be ideal, but we will provide training support to an experienced handler willing to learn. He currently lives with another dog and does very well, he will need a slow, proper introduction to new dogs but does really well with them. He is housebroken, crate trained and well behaved in the house.
Cooper's adoption fee is waived to an experienced adopter.
