*** Hi there! I'm Dorothy, the gal-pal you've been searching for! ***
I'm an adorable female Siberian Husky mix, around 2 yrs old, and weighing about 64 lbs. I have an extra soft and floofy black and white coat (you won't be able to resist giving me scratches - I triple dog dare you to try!) You'll notice my ocean blue eyes, million-dollar smile, and brains to match my beauty! You may know another famous Dorothy. Yes - the one from Wizard of Oz. But now you know two! Just like her, I also know there's no place like (a forever) home!
A pawfect day for me would involve going on a walk (I'm a good girl on leash and will match your pace- so whether we're running, jogging, or walking- I'll be right by your side!).
Then I'd love some yard time to get my zoomies out. Sometimes, I wonder if I'd make the Olympics because I'm quite the high jumper! If you combine my athleticism and brains (I've been known to get the divider up in my kennel)- you could have quite the escape artist on your hands. My future pawrents should definitely make sure the house and yard especially, are doggy-proofed to ensure I don't unleash my best Harry Houdini impression!
My most favorite thing in the world has to be belly rubs! I love relaxing next to a volunteer pal, soaking in the sunshine, and enjoying the cuddles. I know my volunteer pals find it relaxing too- there isn't anything a good belly rub can't cure! In between belly rubs I enjoy running the fence line with other shelter doggos! I might make a pawsome sister and if you already have a dog, my staff friends will need to properly introduce us to see if we are comfortable with one another.
So, what do you say? Are you in search of a sweet sidekick who loves to keep you company, a companion to enjoy the outdoors with, and a best friend who will be there to greet you with a smile after a long day? If so, I'm your girl!! Click your heels together 3x and come on by to see if we could pawsibly be a good match.

Please browse our adoptable animals. We make every effort to keep our listings updated.
Each of our animals has contact information in the description - either referencing the phone number of the foster volunteer who is fostering the animal or East County Animal Shelter contact information if a shelter animal.
If you have questions, please use the contact information in the description directly. We attempt to forward emails sent to contact@tvar.org to the foster though it is not necessarily before the animal is adopted. Also, volunteers who monitor this email do not know the animals whereas the fosters do!
If a dog or puppy is in foster with TVAR, please fill out an adoption application (available here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/TVAR/Dog). We consider each application and pick the best one for the animal in question. In general, we do not do out of area adoptions. Kittens do not need applications completed - just contact the foster!
If an animal is at ECAS, they have their own adoption process. Please go to ECAS (they are open daily 11:30am to 5:30pm except holidays) to meet the animal and learn about ECAS's adoption process.
All TVAR animals are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, treated for worms and fleas, and microchipped. Felines are FIV/FeLV tested. Many of our pets also come with a "packed bag" that can include a variety of goodies like bedding, food, toys, leashes, and even private training sessions with our professional trainers. Adoption fees vary by species. Our fee range is $120-$350. The foster volunteer can provide specifics for the animals in their care.

More about this rescue
Tri-Valley Animal Rescue (TVAR) was founded in 1992 and is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization serving the East Bay (San Francisco Bay Area). We primarily place shelter animals in foster care of TVAR volunteers while trying to find them permanent homes. Although we do not have a facility of our own, we help over 1000 animals find forever homes yearly through the hard work and dedication of our East County Animal Shelter shelter volunteers who socialize shelter animals daily and assist the public in selecting a pet to adopt.
We have a variety of volunteer programs including a shelter program and four foster programs. We are always looking for more volunteers - especially fosters. If you are interested in volunteering with us, please check out our volunteer page (https://www.tvar.org/volunteer/) for information.
