Meet Rue, a beautiful 1 y/o long-haired “dilute” tortoiseshell cat! We adopted her in November ‘23 as an 8-week old barn kitty. She is up to date on all shots and was recently spayed in July.
We have 3 other cats; one female (10 y/o) and two males (10 and 1.5 y/o). They all got along well for 8 months until Rue was spayed and started becoming aggressive with our other female cat, completely unprovoked.
This was not the normal “tortie-tude” you often hear about with tortoiseshells. Rue hisses, growls, and actively hunts down our other female cat. We can no longer keep them in the same space. We do believe this is territorial behavior and likely has to do with the stress of her operation and the smaller-than-desired space we have.
We would like Rue to go to a home where there is plenty of space to roam and claim as her own, without other female cats, and with an owner who is patient and experienced. She seems to do well with new male cats over time, with slow introduction.
