My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dear Future Family,

I am reaching out to you with hope and a heart full of optimism for Kane, a remarkable dog who is in need of a special home. Kane is an 18-month-old Cane Corso/Presa Canario mix, and while his journey so far has had its challenges, he is a dog with immense potential and love to give to the right person or family. Kane is a large, protective dog with a strong presence, yet beneath his exterior lies a heart that yearns for a deep and meaningful connection. He is housebroken, litter trained, and crate trained—traits that show his adaptability and willingness to be a part of a loving home. His enthusiasm for fetching and his loyalty as a companion are qualities that will bring joy and fulfillment to a family who understands and appreciates his unique needs. With the right guidance, patience, and training, Kane has the potential to overcome these challenges and thrive.

Kane would thrive in a home with a secure, fenced yard where he can run and play freely. He needs a family who can offer him structure, clear boundaries, and the understanding that he is a protective dog who needs to feel secure in his environment. This letter is written with hope that Kane finds a loving home where he can be his best self. If you are an experienced dog owner who is willing to invest time in Kane’s training and socialization, you will find a loyal and affectionate companion in him. Kane's future is bright with the right support, and he has the potential to offer unwavering loyalty and companionship. If you believe you can provide Kane with the stability and love he needs, please consider opening your heart and home to him. With your help, Kane can find the happiness and security he deserves. Thank you for taking the time to consider this wonderful dog. Kane is waiting for someone who can see past his challenges and embrace his potential. Together, you can build a future filled with love, trust, and mutual respect.

Thanks, Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue

The suggested adoption donation for Kane is $400 Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2021 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $307,000 covered mainly through adoption fees.

Please Note: A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we are only assisting the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue, and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption.

Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver.

Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months.

Alter Agreement: If the dog or cat you adopt is older than 6 months of age and not spayed or neutered, you will receive a voucher to alter the pet at Val Verde Animal Hospital or Omaha Animal Medical Group in Omaha, at no cost to you. Or you can alter the pet at your own vet and be reimbursed $100 for dogs, and $50 for cats, of the total cost. If the dog or cat is younger than 6 months of age, the adopter will be responsible for the cost of altering the pet at the vet of their choice. If proof of alter if received by Muddy Paws prior to the pet turning 6 months of age, a reimbursement of $100 for dogs, and $50 for cats, will be sent to you to help cover expenses. All puppies and kittens MUST be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age. All dogs and cats MUST be spayed or neutered no later than one month after adoption is finalized.

More about this rescue

Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue, Inc. is a not for profit organization formed in 2014 by a small group of devoted animal lovers, in the Council Bluffs/Omaha area, with many years of rescue experience wanting to make a difference in the lives of dogs. Our rescue focuses on small breed dogs, less than 35 pounds, of any age. It is all volunteer based, and all of our rescue dogs are living in the homes of our volunteers.
Our rescue is unique in that we offer supportive services, such as education and training, to owners considering relinquishing their pet in an effort to try to keep the dog in their home whenever possible. We also educate and offer placement assistance to owners attempting to rehome their pets through social media sites, which can often be risky for the pets as well as the owners.
