Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Ashton!
Ashton is a huge goofy boy just looking for his perfect forever family to go on adventures with and get all the love and snuggles! Ashton is a big strong happy guy looking for his forever home, preferably a confident home with power breed experience! While Ashton is incredibly well behaved and a home with power breed experience will probably find him easy, he has had a few meet and greets where his size and excitement for visitors have startled potential adopters and they've felt he is too much for him.
Ashton is a sweet middle-aged gentleman with plenty of energy, spunkiness and booty wiggles! He is a curious boy and loves to sniff and explore everything on his walks. He walks well on leash on a transitional slip leash, and is doing well with off leash training at his rural foster home. He enjoys the car, he is up for any kind of rural hike or public event, and loves snuggles on the couch! Ashton is an incredibly balanced boy and is easy-going with whatever his foster family decides to do!
In his foster home, Ashton is generally low energy, affectionate and respectful. He is good with strangers, but can be overstimulated when visitors come and give him attention, and does best on leash so he can't jump up on them. He loves to rub up for attention, but due to his size often pushes people or moves furniture by accident.. If ignored by new people, he ignores them.
Ashton arrived at the shelter with another dog that he enjoyed playing with a big bouncy play style. He is currently being fostered with 3 male dogs and does well with them. He has a respectful passive introduction, and walks well with them... even doing some very big zoomies in the field beside his foster home! Ashton mostly ignores other dogs on walks, and hasn't cared about dogs barking at him, or passing through a busy dog festival.
Ashton hasn't been officially tested with cats, however he does have a strong prey drive for our chickens and had a very strong drive to the bunnies at the shelters, and likely will not do well in a home with cats or small animals. He has made progress with ignoring our chickens and may have potential, however we do not know at this point. He is good at ignoring other dogs on walks and hasn't been too focused on squirrels.
Ashton tries to be a gentle giant, but is ultimately too big, strong, and likes to lean on people. He can be fast if he wants to be, and is a bit clumsy, so he doesn't quite get the title of gentle giant. He has no intent for accidentally hurting anyone, but has caused a few injuries in his foster home through being too happy, affectionate and clumsy. He is looking for a confident adopter who can laugh off any accidents, advocate for him, and not put him in any situations where his size or goofy antics can intimate others.

Ashton was taken in by our local Animal Services after being found abandoned on a rural road with a female mastiff about the same age. He sat in the shelter without any interest for over 2 months before being pulled into rescue – we’re so happy we could get him into a home environment while he waits for his forever home! Ashton is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, dewormed and has tested negative for tick/mosquito borne illnesses.
