My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Holaaaaa. Me llamo CHIKITTA (Chica.) Here is a bit about me:
Breed: Labrador Retriever/Beagle mix
Age: 7 mo
Gender: female
Weight : 50 pounds
Height: 23 inches
Country of Origin: Mexico
Highlights: Energetic, Loyal, Curious, Affectionate, Clever, Outgoing

I am a very sweet, very loving dog, who enjoys and craves human contact.

First noticing me in January as a small puppy in front of my eventual rescuer's shop, she realized after a few days, that I was permanently tied up, like 24/7. Days passed, then months. I was never untied, never spent 1 moment inside the house with other pets and humans in the household. Where I live is a very warm place, yet I was just left outside with no available shade, no water and no exercise/walks. My rescuer walked over and talked to me. She brought me water, toys and treats.

The only meaningful interactions I received was from my rescuer and other people who walked by and saw my brutal circumstances. I had not been released from the leash, not even once in 6 months. I was stepping on my own feces and pee, since I had no room to avoid it.

But most importantly, I lacked love and attention. Around March, my rescuer decided to ask the people to give me to her, which they refused. Why? Since I obviously meant nothing to them.

My rescuer then began gathering videos and evidence about my plight and went to ask help with the local authorities. They visited my owner's house and told them they would be fined if they did not change the living conditions for me. 2 days after they were told about the monetary reprcussions of having such a sweet puppy as they did, they walked across to my rescuer's shop and told her they would give me up to her. Yeah, such relief.

It then took her 5 months to get me out of there, but in June, I was free and had my first walk ever. see my video.

I am very playful and curious about my surroundings. Since I am still in the puppy stage, my energy is reflective of that. You'll find I am very smart and eager to please. My temperament should lend well to training and learning. Also, my rescuer has observed, I am outgoing and friendly towards everybody.

My previous owners had cats, so I have been around them. My rescuer never saw us interact though, likely because I was unable to go anywhere, so no idea how we would get along. My rescuer has already taught me some skills too. I know the sit and stay commands, I know how to walk properly on a leash without pulling and I will let you know when I need to go out potty.

I bet we'll make a great team. I should be able to fit well in most any home. I look firward to hikes and cuddles and all the fun things a dog should be able to do.

Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.

Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live.

Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.

Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you.

While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or  Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs.

The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.

Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website.

[MID-EAST] *Vaccinations: Dogs from the Middle East are vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, leptospirosis, adenovirus type 1 and para-influenza. Bordetella is not given, as that has not been a problem in the Middle East.

[TURKEY] *Dogs receive 4D SNAP tests - which include: Heartworm, Ehrlichiosis, Leishmania and Anaplasmosis.
