My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Archie

Border Collie mix

Male (neuter to be scheduled)

20 weeks, 25 pounds

Archie was born on April 17, 2024, on a farm near North Platte, Neb. His mother was a pure bred border collie, but without a DNA test, it would be anyone’s guess as to what he’s mixed with.

We named him Archie because the mark on his forehead reminded us of the fletching on an archer’s arrow. His foster mom tells us that he’s intelligent and a quick learner, so already has a small vocabulary of commands and we want to find an adopter that will challenge him mentally and physically. He loves to run and play fetch, but he’s also content to relax on the couch with you after burning off some energy.

He is leash trained and sleeps through the night in his own kennel. Archie is also house trained as long as no one forgets to give him a let out or short walk every few hours. He’s a healthy puppy and has enjoyed being raised to this point with a female sibling, so play dates might be an option if his adopter lives in or near Lincoln.

At this age, Archie does fine with cats and other dogs. He would also do okay with children as long as parents are good at monitoring and have enough time to finish his training. We anticipate his adult size to be somewhere between 40 and 50 lbs., but one thing we are sure of: Archie is going to make someone a wonderful lifetime companion.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All prospective adopters contact the group via our website and are required to fill out an adoption form. Volunteers check references and do a home visit. A "meet and greet" is arranged if other family members or pets are involved.
Adoption fees are generally $250.00 for dogs 6 months to 7 years; $150.00 for dogs over 7 years. If a puppy is adopted, the adoption fee is $450.00, but $200 of that is refunded once we have documentation that the animal has been altered. All adult dogs are altered, current on vaccinations, microchipped and tested for heartworm. If the adoption does not work out, NNCKR requires that the dog be returned to us.

Go meet their pets

We take advantage of local events sponsored by businesses such as PetSmart, PetCo, Subaru, Verizon and Tractor Supply Company, as well as local fund raisers put on by rescue groups. We are also happy to arrange meet and greets with people who would like to see a dog they saw on our website or at an adoption event.

More about this rescue

Nebraska No Kill Canine Rescue (NNKCR) was formed by five people who had a dream that one day all adoptable dogs in Lancaster County would find loving homes.

To accomplish this, we do three things:
Rescue dogs
Rehabilitate dogs
Re-home dogs

NNKCR is a 501(c)(3) Not-For-Profit dog rescue group. We provide emergency foster care for homeless dogs, veterinary care for dogs in our care and find forever homes for homeless dogs. NNKCR is an all-volunteer organization, and 100% of all funds donated go toward our rescue efforts and the dogs in our care.
