My story

Hi, I'm Fig and I'm so happy to meet you! I'm a bouncy, medium sized lady with lots of energy. With other dogs, I like to show off my agility by playing chase, but they can't keep up with me. My personality is sweet, engaged and bright. I'm always smiling and ready for anything. My ideal home can have other dogs, cats and people of all ages. At 1 year old, I'm pretty much full grown. Fig is a playful pup on the hunt for her forever home. So many great qualities for this sweet one year old. She is:
- potty trained
- crate trained
- friendly with humans (adults and kiddos), dogs and cats
- perfectly sized at 35lbs
- fetch and snuggling is her jam
- she loves a good walk, and likely a jog if that's more your thing
This young, agile pup also loves to chase squirrels and bunnies to wherever they may lead her, so a 5 ft fence and/or walks on a leash are best as she is an incredible jumper, and can get over a 4 ft fence!

Submit Application

Review our adoption process and complete our new online pet application. If you need assistance, call us or visit our Adoption Center!

2.
Approve Application

If you have had pets in the past 10 years, we will do a vet check and we will check with your landlord or HOA that you can have the pet.

3.
Meet the Pet

Once approved, everyone in your home will need to meet the pet. Also, any existing dog will need to meet a dog you want to adopt.

4.
Sign Adoption Contract

We will ask you to sign an adoption contract and pay our adoption fee - a schedule of fees is on our website.

We have one Adoption Center at 1901 W. Ogden Ave., Downers Grove, IL. Please come in to complete our pet application or fill it out online and we will contact you to schedule an appointment to meet our awesome dogs and cats!

More about this rescue

The West Suburban Humane Society (WSHS) is a volunteer-based, no-kill animal rescue that was founded in 1972 in the western suburbs of Chicago. WSHS now finds homes for more than 500 dogs and cats each year!

WSHS is 100% funded by individual, corporate, and private foundations donations, and has over 450 active volunteers! WSHS is caring for about 200 animals at any given time.
