My story

This is a courtesy posting for a past volunteer of our rescue who is having to close her grooming shop, and with her life in such an uncertain transitional stage is finding herself sadly needing to rehome her dogs. Haku is a stunning longhaired Dachshund, between a mini and standard in size, 6-7 years in age and sure to please the heart of any true Dachshund lover. He came to her four years ago via a co-worker, who felt she was observing signs of "fear and aggression" towards her newborn. Who is to say what happened, but after a transitional period he settled in very nicely and has been a lovely pet and companion ever since. Sweet and very affectionate, a great couch buddy and brimming with personality, he plays well with dogs of similar size. Pretty typical for Longhairs, Haku is sensitive. He can be timid and vocal with unfamiliar people and dogs, and suffers from isolation anxiety, preferring companionship. He can be fretful crated by himself, yet is far improved when crated nearby to his doggie friends. He is going to do best with someone who understands Dachshunds well within in a home where people are around most of the time. Due to his sensitivities, he should be in a home free of small children. He's a bright boy, very food motivated, and in a recent stint of dog sitting Haku we found him just an enchanting little imp to spend time with.
