My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

There’s “sweet,” and then there’s Darla’s special type of sweetness. She snuggles with her full body weight, she remembers every kind stranger and repays them with kisses next time she meets them, she tried to climb into my jacket for optimal hugs. This pup is like a walking bundle of sunshine! At just one year old and 42 pounds of pure love, she's a dream dog.

Watch Darla here: https://youtu.be/WluD0SrAlo0?si=M-V54vvG5LqJe9kM

First off, let's talk behavior. Darla's basically top-tier in the adoptable department. She's like the teacher's pet of the rescue, always on her best behavior. She's not just good with humans; she's a dog whisperer too! She's got this magic just puts other pups at ease, coaxing them into playtime. Darla is good with dogs of all sizes, small dogs don’t faze her. She’s besties with a pittie mix named Lena, and even gives her kisses through her crate. Darla is just unbelievably sweet.

Darla loves toys, she has a favorite unicorn stuffie, watch her play with it in her video! She loves treats too, and she’s suuuuper food motivated. Any further training with this girl will be enjoyable for both of you! She’s easy on leash, good in the car, and she has great house manners. We’ve spent hours in the house with Darla, and she’s never had an indoor accident. She’s quiet and well behaved in her crate too!

Darla's got a heart of gold! She's got this sweet, gentle vibe that just melts your heart on contact. It's no wonder she's a staff favorite – who wouldn't fall for those puppy dog eyes and that A+ disposition? Darla has a habit of remembering each and every person that she’s had a kind moment with and makes sure to reward her favorite people with tail wags and kisses when she sees them.

Darla’s sweetness does have a catch! Darla’s heart is so precious that she’s learned to guard it- she takes a moment to warm up to new people. Darla can be won over fairly easily- 10 minutes of quiet, calm coexisting was all she needed from me before she came in for a snuggle. Darla’s first move is usually to sit at your feet and lean into your legs, she’s inviting you to pet! Once she’s determined that you’re trustworthy, Darla’s loyalty is unmatched.

Darla would do well in most home environments. Considering her “warm up” period, we are recommending her for a home with older kids, ten and up, old enough to understand a rescue dog’s hesitancy. She would absolutely love a doggy sibling or two to play with, but she does require many, many pets per day and would thrive as your solo dog! All of that attention, just for her? Sign Darla up!

If you're in the market for a furry bundle of joy, equal parts snuggle-bug and adventure dog, look no further than Darla!

Why adopt from Three Little Pitties?

The stray and animal overpopulation in the Greater Houston area is the highest in the nation. Statistics show that there are over 1 million homeless animals in this region alone. Three Little Pitties Rescue is a nonprofit dog and cat rescue that partners with the community to make a difference. Our mission is to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and saving all breeds of dogs and cats from the streets or animal shelters that oftentimes have no other option but to euthanize animals for space. This dog you’ve found online is lucky to be in our program, and even luckier to have you notice it!

Three Little Pitties wants to set you and your new pet up for success! We know our dogs and we work hard to prepare them socially for adoption. We are a network of dedicated people who are heavily invested in seeing our animals thrive. From the moment they are accepted into our program, our Intake, Behavior & Medical teams prepare them for adoption by properly vetting, behaviorally assessing, and providing customized plans depending on the dog’s needs. We provide weekly socialization programs for our dogs through playgroups and group leash training classes available to all dogs in our adoption program, and Doggy Sleepover, Doggy Day Out, and Ambassador programs for our boarding dogs. There is a professional dog trainer on staff to provide support for our fosters and dogs, and an off-site dog trainer for dogs that need more extensive behavior modification. This helps us learn deeply about every dog, prepare them for adoption, and ultimately match them with loving families. We seek to adopt to families who understand that these are rescue dogs and will require continued training efforts, but will be well on their way to being the best dogs that they can be!

It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these special perks:

• A free private online dog training session with GoodPup plus low pricing for future sessions (approx $25 weekly for an 8 week course of one session per week)
• One free bonus toy in every BarkBox when signing up for their Super Chewer subscription plan
• 25% off of your first order of Fetch, a PNW based, organic fresh dog food loaf meal subscription plan
• Coupons for a fun visit to Petco
• Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup!

We celebrated our 5 year anniversary this year! Through the combined efforts of all of our hardworking staff and volunteers, we have placed over 12,000 very lucky dogs and cats into amazing homes! By adopting from us, you save TWO lives! The pet you adopt, and you create an opportunity for another animal to be saved in that spot. Together, we can be heroes.
