DOUGIE NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Dougie Best Guess for Breed: Terrier mix; maybe rat terrier in there
Best Guess for Age: 4 years as of September 2024 Gender: Male
Approximate Weight: 15 lbs
Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with kids or cats but he can be tested.
Currently Living At: Texas shelter
Special Adoption Considerations: Dougie is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.
We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!
Additionally, Dougie is being transferred to our care before his shelter can neuter him. Lucky Dog will neuter him as soon as possible; however, if he is adopted before that happens, his adopter becomes responsible for his alter. He must be neutered by October 14, 2024. There are no exceptions and no extensions to this deadline.
Dougie is Looking For: His forever home! This cutie landed in the shelter by no fault of his own, but he's closed that chapter. He's eager to once again have his own humans for sniffy walks and romps in parks and all the adventures they dream up. And his size is a huge plus - if he can't scramble over boulders, he can easily be toted over!
He also wants to make pup and people pals along the way, quality kibble, and a cushy dog bed. But you know what he wants most of all? To know he's safe and loved and under his own roof. In exchange, he promises adoring gazes and snuggles and loyal companionship. What do you say? Is there a Dougie-shaped gap in your lap and your life?
What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once he has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with his foster
Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog
