My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

*This dog is scheduled to arrive in Grimsby, Ontario the evening of Friday, September 27*Apply to adopt at rebeldogrescue.com*All adoptions with Rebel Dog Rescue have a 15 day probation period. Read about our adoption process on our website.

Ash reminds us of the best little Chubby Boy Scout who wants nothing more than to please. He is extremely social and has done great with dogs of all sizes, sexes, and temperaments. He is generally calm in the kennel and loves affection from his person. Ash pulls a little on the leash and needs to be reminded not to jump sometimes - but is very friendly and trainable. He is truly a one size fits all dog as we have not seen him be in any circumstances that he didnt absolutely thrive in. Ash is a young soul - but is a mature dog who will correct a dog who isn't being respectful if he needs to, but quickly returns to his normal playful state. We walked Ash on leash through our cat room - he got swatted at - and ran away! Ash would do best in a home with another dog friend and someone ready to live a moderately active lifestyle.

Ideal Home: Ash would do best in a home that allows him on the couch / bed / and any other place his people are relaxing ( as he loves to cuddle ). He would like a medium energy level dog friend who can respectfully play with him.

Name: Ash

Breed: American Bulldog mix

Age: ~5.5 years

Weight: ~62lb 'very well fed'

Sex: Male, neutered

Colour: Black and white

Medical: 4/16/24 during his neuter we removed a blueberry sized mass from his testicle; received treatments for heartworms; no concerns

Good with men: Yes, friendly and outgoing

Good with women: Yes, friendly and outgoing

Good with kids 0-6: Yes, but has not lived with small children

Good with kids 6+: Yes, but has not lived with children

Good with dogs: Yes, loves being around and playing with other dogs. He would prefer a big dog not come barreling at him too quickly at the first intro. He has been off leash with dominant dogs / submissive dogs / low energy dogs - and would prefer a dog that is respectful of his space but that also is outgoing and wants to run and play.

Good with cats: Possibly - Ash was walked through our cat room on leash and was avoidant of the cats in the kennels. He walked up to a kennel, got swatted, and peacefully wanted to leave.

House trained: Almost perfectly house trained - about 90% there

Crate trained: Yes, has to be placed in his crate but settles quickly and quietly

Resource guarding: None seen

Walks on a leash: Walks well, pulls a bit

Energy level: Medium-High

Requires detached/single home: Preferred

Separation anxiety: None noted

Barker: Average

Additional adoption info

R.E.B.E.L Dog Rescue is looking for committed adopters, ready to bring a rescue dog into their life. In order to ensure that we find the best homes for our dogs, adoption applicants must go through an adoption approval process. We receive a number of applications for each dog and only one will be chosen as the successful candidate. Candidates are selected based on the dog's needs. Not being selected for the dog that you applied for does not disqualify you from adopting from us in the future.

Go meet their pets

We do our very best to place our dogs into adoptive homes before they arrive into Canada. This ensures that they have a safe and loving place to go after their long journey up North. All dogs adopted through R.E.B.E.L Dog Rescue will receive a 15 day adoption probation period. This period starts the day the dog enters the care of the adopter. This means that the adoptive family has 15 days to determine that dog is a good fit for them. Although it may feel scary to not meet the dog before adopting, the 15 day period allows you to get to know the dog within your home. If you buy a dog off of Kijiji or at a local shelter you may be given a couple hours to meet the dog. We believe that our program's 15 day probation provides much more insight into how he or she will fit into your home, rather than. a brief meet and greet.

More about this rescue

R.E.B.E.L Dog Rescue was founded in 2020 by a small group of young women with one thing is common: a love for dogs. Since establishment, RDR has successfully found forever homed for over 700 dogs. Our mission is to rescue dogs in dire situations and give them a second chance at life through education and empowerment. All of our dogs come the streets and shelters across Texas, where they are experiencing a dog overpopulation crisis. Our team has travelled to the State to see first-hand how we can help and make a difference in the lives of animals.
R.E.B.E.L stands for: rescue, educate, believe, empower and love dogs. We live by these words every day and encourage the dog-loving community to follow suit!
