My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

COURTESY POST

Millie needs a new home. Please reach out if you'd like to be considered as her new family. She's a very sweet girl who needs to be the only dog in the home.

Name: Millie
Age: 6 years
Breed: Border Collie / German Shepherd Mix
Gender: Female
Weight: 50 pounds
Location: Orangeville
Spayed/neutered: Yes
Up to date on vaccines: Yes, as of April 2024

Millie is an incredibly loving dog who has a way of creeping into everyone's heart. She's loyal, smart, and full of energy, always ready to play or go for a walk. Through all times of pain and sickness, she's been right by our side as a constant comfort.

Behaviour with kids: Millie does wonderfully with children. She's patient, gentle, and loves playing with our small child.

Behaviour with other dogs: Millie has an anxious nature and often tries to control her environment to help ease her anxiety. She has a high prey drive, and when overwhelmed, her ability to think clearly is affected. She's protective of her space and can become reactive if she feels threatened by other dogs. To help manage this, she is fully crate trained and trained to use a "place" cot.

Behaviour with cats: Millie is good with cats.

Other behavioural concerns: Millie's journey hasn't been easy, and she's faced some challenges, but she's also made incredible progress. Her recent 7-week board and train program helped her learn how to regulate her nervous system, build confidence, and stay calm in public. For Millie to continue thriving, she needs a loving home that understands her and can continue to support the foundation of her training.

Medical issues or concerns: Millie has an allergy to poultry that causes skin irritation, so we keep her on a raw diet of ground beef with veggies + supplements. This has worked well for her, and she's had no issues since we made the switch.

Ideal home: Millie would thrive in a peaceful home where she can be the only pet, surrounded by people who love her as much as she loves them. A large yard or property would be perfect for her to run, play, and explore—she's happiest when she has a purpose. She loves long walks, engaging play sessions, and her quiet time in her crate, which helps her feel safe and relaxed. She's also comfortable in her crate for extended hours during the day, making her a great companion for owners who don't work from home.

Millie is the kind of dog who changes your life for the better. She's an exceptionally loyal companion who loves with all her heart. If you think you could be the one to give Millie the love and stability she deserves, please reach out. We know she has so much more love to give, and we're hopeful to find a family who will cherish her.

More about this rescue

We are a small group of volunteers trying to help local and international rescuers who desperately need help to rehome their dogs. It started as a fundraising effort to help them with vet costs and food so they could help more strays on the street. However, rescue is not complete without a forever home and they were overwhelmed with so many dogs and no homes to send them to. There are so many sweet, loving and friendly dogs and along with fundraising, we hope to find homes for their dogs so they can continue to help more.
