My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Thor is seeking a new best friend and (pratically) full time companion!

If you are looking for a velcro, loyal dog that's wants to be your best friend - this is your boy!!  He bonds very strongly to his people and boy is he smart!!! Thor is a male Mal about 2-2.5 years old that was loved immensely.  Thor came into rescue due to an unexpected and tragic death of his owner who took Thor everywhere. With no other options, he was brought to  the shelter.  Thor doesn't know why or what happened. Despite this change in environment, shelter staff said he was an excellent guest and was clearly a loved household pet. Now with his fosters, we are learning more about him, as well as through family and friends that knew his owner and know Thor.

Thor loves to play and will play until he is wore out. He has very high toy drive. He loves tug-of-war and fetch. He likes to stay busy. He is well-trained and will fetch a ball or catch a frisbee, bring it back, drop it, let you get it and sit and wait for you to throw it and repeat, and repeat, and repeat... LOL.  With pushy dogs trying to take his toy, he will give a growly warning, but he shows no aggression to humans with his toy. He gets along with both male and female dogs, although he prefers smaller dogs it seems, and likes to play, and currently is spending most of his time with a small 15lb dog vs the pushier. He has been friends with a small male bulldog and he has been around cats and chickens. He seems uncomfortable with larger dogs at this time, but he has been through alot and is still unsure with all the change he has gone through.

Thor is not food motivated, unless it's shredded cheese. THAT, he does love!! Thor knows basic commands using Hand Signals, German and English commands. We are still learning exactly what he knows. He knows Sit and Stay exceptionally well. He know his name and will come when called.  He is good on a leash and checks in with his walker.  At his current fosters he  has worn a harness (well-fitted, please) and fursaver chain and walks well. Double-leashing at first is highly recommended.

Thor is a bit clingy/velcro and knows how to ask for Love. He really, really, wants a new friend that will take him everywhere. He really craves that human companionship and connection, and will lay at your feet while you work, and happily share half the bed. Because of this connection, he can have some distaste for separation. He will go into a crate and for an hour or so, no problem. Longer than that and he gets to yelping.  His foster is going to work on this.  That said, he rides well in a truck, and when left alone, was not distructive. Just sat quietly and waited. It should be noted that while he rides well in a truck, when you get where you are going he is waiting for you to open the door, and he will push his way past to jump out in his eagerness to see what is next for today's fun. He must be taught to "wait" for his own safety.

Thor is doing great in a crate and will sleep in one all night long. Although he does prefer the bed!

He is very loyal and loving. He is protective, but still loves to meet new people - men and women. Older kids are great and he enjoys their company as well and is tolerant. That said, he is unsure of very young kids and is clearly uncomfortable. We do not recommend young kids under age 10.

Thor can easily jump a 6' wood fence, especially if it means getting to his human. He has been left in a backyard for a short period observed and he just wandered around smelling things. BUT he CAN jump it!! So he shouldn't be trusted. Thor has lived on 25 acres and is accustomed to having room to run. He loves playing fetch in wide open spaces. He also loves water!

Thor is super smart, and I think this guy might love dock diving or maybe flyball. An activity he can do with his human will just build that bond quicker, and give him confidence.
