Meet the Pet
Meet spunky, fearless Dixie! A fun-loving possible beagle/hound mix who is available for immediate adoption into her forever home. She may also be part kangaroo, since when she's *really* excited, she lets you know by hopping!
Dixie was found as a stray and when the owners couldn't be found after a thorough search she was placed with a foster family who has been getting to know her and caring for her through her spay and recovery. She is estimated to be a little over 1 year old, and still has that happy puppy energy, with her tail always up and a smile on her face! She seems to love all people and other dogs and would make a great addition for an active household.
The fosters say that Dixie even quickly won over their two older dogs, who have only just tolerated their other fosters, and the 3 of them have frequent play sessions around the house or chase lizards together outside. We have not seen her yet around cats. Being puppy-ish, she's still learning some manners and is a bit mouthy when she plays, so she would not be recommended for a home with very young children.
She is house-broken, but has had the benefit of living with a doggie door to a fenced yard, so in the absence of one, she may need to be re-trained to notify her people when she has to go out. She doesn't like being in a crate but her fosters found she really didn't need one. She loves going on walks/runs but will need continued leash-training, as she gets very excited when she sees other dogs along the way and also tends to let her hound nose lead the way. We imagine that in her head she's off on an exciting hunt! She's not ALL energy though. She gets up ready to tackle the day, but after some fun and exercise, she slows down and enjoys long naps, sometimes snoring away. And if you give her some good belly or ear rubs, she'll reward you with the cutest grunts and snorts!
Since Dixie is a very social dog, it would be best for her to go into a home where there is someone around most of the time. And she would really benefit from being in a home with another playful dog, though it's not a requirement. Please apply for Dixie at 4luckydogs.org (http://4luckydogs.org/)
