My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Squirtle, a loving, young and beautiful boy. Squirtle has amazing classic tabby markings, an open, trusting expression, and a sweet, gentle soul.

Squirtle is learning to trust again after being let down when his first new home was not a good fit for him and he was returned to us. Squirtle was originally a TNR rescue. He was taken into rescue and fostered by a family who loved on him, and he enjoyed cuddles with the children in his foster home.

He was then adopted as the only cat in his new home. Then a second older, bigger cat was brought in two months later. Because Squirtle was shy, the new dominant cat treated him like a toy, stalking him and terrorizing him. He was returned to us after being ignored as he remained in hiding to avoid being stalked and attacked by the other cat.

After five months of living in terror, he was returned and we found an abscess on his neck (now healed) from a recent attack. Although he was adopted first, the family decided they liked the other cat more so Squirtle was returned.

He was so broken when he came back, he initially was afraid to even be touched. But after several days in foster care, his old personality began to come back. He loves his wet food and treats (something he was never offered in his first home). He's also started playing with toys. He enjoys batting around his stuffed mouse and is pretty fond of his catnip banana.

Squirtle seeks out pets and responds very well to head scratches. Everyday he becomes more confident, loving and trusting. He is not quite ready to be held and cuddled again, but we think he will get there. Squirtle needs a new home where he is spoiled. He deserves toys and treats and to feel safe. We think at this time, because of his past trauma, a home where he is the only pet may be best for him.

If you believe you can give this beautiful boy the home he deserves, one with wet food daily, toys, patience and love, then we know he will return the love in kind.

More about this rescue

We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization, dedicated to the care of feral cats. Members of our group work on a volunteer basis to feed, water, and provide medical care for hundreds of feral cats in Knoxville and surrounding areas. We participate in a trap/neuter/return program in an effort to control the feral cat population. The TNR program is where feral cats are humanely trapped by volunteers, taken to a clinic to be spayed or neutered and vaccinated, then returned to their colony where they are most comfortable. Our organization holds adoption fairs in order to find homes for socialized kittens born into feral colonies and to re-home stray pets that are abandoned in our colonies! We are funded solely from donations and fund raisers with 100% of money raised going directly to controlling and maintaining the feral cat population.
