A Good Samaritan recently reached out to us about a dog who needed immediate help.
But one dog quickly turned into two, then three, then eight, and now there may be a total of seventeen dogs all living in an abandoned house.
We do not know for sure at this point how many dogs there are (the story keeps changing), but we ended up taking three new Misfits for now.
We knew as soon as we got the call, time was of the essence…& it is. These dogs have been living in absolutely deplorable conditions. No access to food or water, they were left…just forgotten about in an abandon home. These dogs are walking skeletons, coated in fleas/flea dirt on any hair they have left. Collars have been so worn and torn, it’s simply just thread now.
Two of them, Forest & Arrow, are in the worst shape. With the lowest body condition scores Misfit Mountain has ever received, we simply could not turn these kiddos away; ethically we have a responsibility to help them. Saylor is also very emaciated, and very scared of her surroundings.
Saylor is currently in foster, where we are working with a veterinarian to get her healthy. Her foster is working with her on feeling safe and gaining trust. Once she is cleared medically, she will be vaccinated and spayed.
Follow along on Facebook and Instagram to keep with Saylor and her siblings' progress, and if you're interested in foster-to-adopt, reach out!

More about this rescue
Misfit Mountain is a foster-based animal rescue in the Greater Asheville area helping dogs, cats, pigs, chickens, and small animals find their forever home.
Our Story:
At Misfit Mountain we don’t just offer another chance at life, we offer our animals a home, a place where bellies are full, love is bountiful, and nose boops are the usual. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization serving the Western North Carolina area. Some animals just pass through until they are healthy and well enough to find their forever home. Others stay awhile, sometimes forever. We are a no kill, all love, and one beautiful mountain of loveable misfits.
Mission: We accept misfits of all shapes and sizes and are committed to providing the best quality of life and care for homeless animals in Western North Carolina.
Vision: We strive to create a no-kill animal community unless deemed medically required due to quality of life or safety concerns. We believe no animal should ever be euthanized due to financial or spacing limitations.
