My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mabel is an 8-year-old Calico beauty with a heart full of love to give, but she needs a special kind of home to truly thrive. Her foster mom absolutely adores her and knows that Mabel's perfect match is out there—a patient, experienced cat lover who understands the importance of a calm and serene environment.

About Mabel:
Mabel is a sensitive soul who can be overwhelmed by loud sounds, strong smells, and other intense stimuli. This means she needs a quiet, low-traffic home where she can feel safe and secure. She’s the ultimate lap cat when she feels at ease—happy to snuggle on your lap, shoulder, or under your arm for hours while you gently pet her (she loves a good cuddle, but no low back scratches please!).

Mabel has tons of energy and a playful spirit. She thrives on enrichment, and she’ll need daily wand toy sessions, feeder puzzles, and plenty of climbing furniture to keep her entertained and happy. She’s incredibly smart and will love having a person who can keep up with her!

The Ideal Home for Mabel:

Quiet and Tranquil: Mabel needs a calm home where there isn't much foot traffic or unexpected sounds. She would not do well in a household with children or frequent visitors.

Adult-Only Home: A home with adults who understand the art of patience and are adept at reading cat body language is a must. Mabel can become stressed easily and needs someone who knows when to give her space and how to help her feel safe.

Mabel needs a family that can recognize when she’s starting to feel uncomfortable and who is prepared to deal with her occasional meltdowns. They can be quite startling—Mabel doesn’t bite, but her yowls can sound fierce. She needs someone who can calmly reassure her when she gets overwhelmed.

Medically Attentive: Mabel takes her anxiety medication like a champ when mixed into her food, but her new family must be committed to maintaining her twice-daily medication schedule and have a solid relationship with their veterinarian.

Enrichment Enthusiast: Mabel thrives on play and mental stimulation. Her adopters should be ready to engage her in daily interactive play, training, and provide her with plenty of climbing options and hideaway spots where she can retreat when she feels overwhelmed.

Could There Be a Cat Friend in Her Future?
Mabel could potentially live with another cat, but it would need to be a calm, confident, and well-adjusted feline companion. She needs a quiet and relaxed atmosphere, so another anxious or high-energy pet would not be a good fit. An adopter with professional experience in animal welfare and cat introductions could be ideal.

Are you ready to give Mabel the calm, loving forever home she deserves? She’s ready to meet you! Currently being fostered in Brighton, if you want to schedule a meet and greet please complete our quick online prescreen, https://bit.ly/3yRGpMD

Additional adoption info

The Adoption Process
- Fill out an application for your potential new family member
- One of our volunteers will review the submitted application and do their best to respond within 48 hours
- We will check personal and veterinary records (if applicable)
- After checking references, we will then look to schedule a home visit (for dogs only)
- If the animal is a good match, then a meet and greet will be setup – usually at the foster home or the Cambridge or Millbury PetSmart adoption centers
- We like to have all family members attend
- Finally, the last step if to complete the adoption paperwork and to bring your new family member home

Here are a few items for people to consider before deciding to adopt:

- Renters must have their landlord’s permission
- Adopters must be 21 years of age or older
- All adoptive homes must be stable, supportive, and capable to meet all veterinary and financial needs of the animal
- Some adoptions will require adopters to enroll the dog in training classes as a condition of adoption, however we encourage training for ALL adopted dogs.
- Kittens younger than 6 months must be adopted with another kitten/cat or go to a home with a resident cat for socialization
- There may be additional adoption requirements for puppies (puppy socialization classes, someone home during the day, etc)
