My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kelly is a puppy Siberian Husky mix. She is one of seven left behind from a large litter. She was taken to a full county shelter due to the owner could not find homes for all the puppies. BHS stepped in and took the seven puppies to a safe foster home. She was born April 24, 2024. She has been dewormed, microchipped, on heartworm preventive and flea/tick preventative, and has received the Distemper-Parvo combination vaccine. She is scheduled to be spayed mid September. She has a beautiful coat and looks like a pure Siberian Husky. She has beautiful ears reaching for the stars. She has been with her siblings since birth and is now ready to have a family of her own. When out in the open yard she is very attentive to her foster mom. She comes when called and does not wonder far. She is smart and is eager to learn. She is a puppy and does need to get plenty of exercise. She would do well with children that understand getting puppy jumps and nibbles. She gets along with other dogs but needs to be fed separately, due to being raised in a large litter. She has not been around cats but yet she is young enough to be trained to enjoy a cat's company. If you are looking to add a pup growing to medium to large size and would become your best friend, Kelly is the one for you. Until Kelly is spayed, she is not available for adoption outside of the counties contiguous to Bedford County. Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Have you discovered a pet you wish to adopt? Great!

Now, the first step is to complete an adoption application on our website at http://bhsva.org/adoptions-home.htm. This is not a commitment to adopt. It is simply the first step in the process.

We will review your application for preliminary approval before asking the foster parent to contact you to set up a time to meet the pet. You may also have concerns about how the animal will fit your home environment. When the foster parent contacts you, you will be able to discuss your concerns with someone who has first-hand experience with the pet.

After you meet the animal, you and the foster parent can decide if this is definitely the forever pet for you.

Go meet their pets

Until we are able to build our No-Kill Shelter, our adoptable pets live in foster homes throughout Bedford County and surrounding areas. If you are interested in meeting a pet, please submit an adoption application or contact our main office.

We also hold adoption events throughout the county. Visit our website or our Facebook page for dates and times. If you would like to be added to our monthly events email list, please send a request to info@bhsva.org.

More about this rescue

The Bedford Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1994 and dedicated to eliminating the overpopulation of cats and dogs in Bedford County, VA through education, spay/neuter programs, and companion animal adoptions. We are NOT the tax-funded Bedford County shelter on Falling Creek Road, although we do try to help the animals there whenever possible. Our adoptable pets live in volunteer foster homes where they receive the care and attention they deserve while awaiting a permanent home.

Our various programs for Bedford County and City of Bedford residents include::

•A low cost spay/neuter program for area pets
•The construction of a no kill animal shelter, The Vernon D Lybolt Adoption Center, at 829 Ole Turnpike Road in Bedford.
•Find homes for abandoned and homeless animals through our adoption and transport programs.
•Help pet owners with unexpected expenses involving their pets, through our Emergency Fund program.
•Provide humane traps and spay/neuter subsidies for feral cats through our Forgotten Felines program.
•Humane Education program for area Scout troops and schools.
