Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Niles, aka Mr. Mittens, is a young dog who was at the country shelter for six months before coming to Misfit Mountain. He was basically feral, and the stress of the shelter was overwhelming for him. Luckily he has spent the last few months with The Sunshine Spot in Waynesville decompressing and is now ready to find his forever family! Niles loves other dogs, but is still working on his trust of new people. His front feet are deformed but this does not slow him down at all! His favorite thing to do is romp around the play yard with his friends. He has made significant progress towards housetraining and is even working on fetch! At about 30 pounds he is the perfect size!
Niles will need a very special home that is willing to go slow with him. Perhaps someone who is familiar with skittish dogs, but mostly just someone with patience and understanding. After the amazing progress he has made in such a short time here with us, we know once he transitions into a home he will flourish.
Did we mention his adopter will also receive 7 days of free boarding with The Sunshine Spot?!
Reach out with any questions or to foster or adopt Niles!

More about this rescue
Misfit Mountain is a foster-based animal rescue in the Greater Asheville area helping dogs, cats, pigs, chickens, and small animals find their forever home.
Our Story:
At Misfit Mountain we don’t just offer another chance at life, we offer our animals a home, a place where bellies are full, love is bountiful, and nose boops are the usual. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization serving the Western North Carolina area. Some animals just pass through until they are healthy and well enough to find their forever home. Others stay awhile, sometimes forever. We are a no kill, all love, and one beautiful mountain of loveable misfits.
Mission: We accept misfits of all shapes and sizes and are committed to providing the best quality of life and care for homeless animals in Western North Carolina.
Vision: We strive to create a no-kill animal community unless deemed medically required due to quality of life or safety concerns. We believe no animal should ever be euthanized due to financial or spacing limitations.
